Digital Reading Corner (POCADI) in Cilegon -
Voinews, Jakarta - The urgency of increasing literacy is crucial to creating an intelligent and highly competitive society in the era of globalization.
Collaboration and strengthening the synergy of literacy programs must be designed comprehensively and touch various aspects of community life.
This collaboration was carried out by the National Library in collaboration with the Cilegon City District Attorney's Office by providing a Digital Reading Corner (POCADI) which was coupled with a talk meeting on Increasing the Community Literacy Index (PILM), Monday (4/12/203).
The POCADI provided is a form of National Library support for literacy development in Cilegon. Cilegon Mayor Heldy Agustian hopes that the development of literacy points will not only be placed in the Kejari office, but will also target other public locations.
"If possible, expand the POCADI service to other public arenas, such as shopping centers, correctional institutions (prisons) and so on," said Heldy.
The urgency of increasing literacy referred to by the Deputy for National Library Resource Development, Adin Bondar, is a program to expand knowledge and information as well as expand library services that can result in community welfare, such as POCADI or the social inclusion-based library transformation program (TPBIS).
"We will continue to encourage the development of information access so that people can access information anytime and anywhere," said Adin.
The Head of the Banten Province High Prosecutor's Office admitted that holding this PILM was the first collaboration between Kajati and National Library.
"I want to emphasize that the prosecutor's office will participate in pushing to increase public literacy. This is a new beginning for us to participate in making the nation's life smarter," said Kajati Banten Province, Didik Farkhan.
In line with Kajati, Chairman of the Cilegon City DPRD, Isra Mi'raj, added that outreach to the community regarding the presence of literacy services is also very important so that the use of these services is more optimal and has an impact.
According to a release received by Voice of Indoensia on Tuesday (05/12/23), Until 2023, Cilegon has received a lot of assistance from the National Library, ranging from ready-to-serve books, DAK for physical development, to POCADI.
"POCADI in Cilegon is the third point of assistance provided by the National Library," said the Head of the Cilegon City Library and Archives Service, Ismatullah.
On the same occasion, Indonesian Reading Ambassador Gol A Gong said it was important to form a literacy epicenter in each region so that it could be optimized by the surrounding community, as well as students. Literacy improvement activities do not have to be enlivened by the National Library.
"All parties must work together actively because the task of educating the nation's children is not a partial task," said National Library Main Librarian Abdullah Sanneng//VOI
Talkshow Increasing the Community Literacy Index (PILM) at Garut University -
Voinews, Jakarta - Of the 443,939 schools in Indonesia, the number of school libraries standing is only 199,597 units. What's even sadder is that the number of new school library staff is 54,763 people.
Member of Commission X DPR RI Ferdiansyah explained that there are at least four gaps in school libraries. First, the understanding and skills that entrepreneurs need to operate effectively in a digital environment.
Second, not all school library staff have the qualifications and competencies in accordance with Minister of National Education Regulation Number 25 of 2008. Third, many library staff are still school teachers.
"And fourth, regarding the unclear employment status of school library staff," he explained at the talkshow Increasing the Community Literacy Index (PILM) at Garut University, Saturday, (1/12/2023).
Apart from the four factors which he considers to be gaps in school libraries, Ferdiansyah again reminded the six basic literacies that society absolutely must have, namely literacy, numeracy, science, digital, finance, culture and citizenship.
Ferdiansyah then highlighted the habit of Indonesian people who can stare at screens 5-7 hours per day but find it difficult to get used to reading books.
"Perhaps, at the school level there should be a rule that if you want to graduate from school you have to summarize books," suggested Ferdi.
Education actually produces an intelligent nation. Don't just rely on school institutions. Education must also be touched from home.
"Indicators of an intelligent nation can be seen from its prosperity," said National Library Main Librarian Muhammad Syarif Bando.
According to a release received by Voice of Indonesia on Saturday (02/12/23), the parameter of intelligence is not only cleverness but also seen from character, manners, honesty, work ethic. If you want to be a winner, become a producing country.
"Without the contribution of education, economic change will not be possible," explained Syarif Bando.
In Garut Regency, the Head of the Garut Regency Library and Archives Service, Totong, said that his party also had challenges that were not easy. As a public library, public libraries are being transformed into national knowledge repositories, market places, co-working spaces, initiators of digital publishing, and social inclusion.
Meanwhile, Indonesian Language and Literature Education Lecturer at IPI Garut Asep Nurjamin said digital literacy is the understanding and skills that entrepreneurs need to operate effectively in a digital environment.
It is necessary to pay attention to several keywords when recognizing and understanding digital literacy, such as advertising, personal selling, interactive marketing, and so on
"In digital literacy there are things that must be considered, including understanding digital platforms, digital security, digital marketing, e-commerce, data analysis, technological innovation, collaboration and soft digital skills," concluded Asep//VOI
