Coordinating Minister for PMK Tells BKKBN to Accelerate Stunting Reduction

National Population and Family Planning Agency (BKKBN), Jakarta 26/08/2021 – The Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (Kemenko PMK) considers that the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (Kemenko PMK) is serious about working with related ministries. Stunting is still a scourge and a serious problem that we must deal with.

"Nationally, the current stunting prevalence rate is still at 27.6 percent. Meanwhile, the government has targeted that in 2024 the prevalence of stunting will be 14 percent," explained the Head of BKKBN dr. Hasto Wardoyo during an audience with the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture.


The Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (Menko PMK) Muhadjir Effendy, said “I really appreciate and fully support the BKKBN in realizing quality Indonesian families and balanced population growth. The hope is that this will encourage the achievement of the president and vice president's vision towards an advanced Indonesia that is sovereign, independent, and has a personality based on mutual cooperation," said Muhadjir.


Muhadjir emphasized that the issue of education and socialization to the community is the importance of keeping children from becoming stunted. "This must be emphasized, then coordination and synchronization between ministries, related institutions and local governments are not yet complete and must be more compact," added Muhadjir.


Handling stunting cannot be done alone, it must be cross-sectoral collaboration. The Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture emphasized that his side would ensure that the Ministries and Institutions below can support each other and that cooperation cannot work alone. "In addition, the handling of stunting must be done on a case-by-case basis, not based on numbers, but by name by address, who is stunting must be traced and handled in a sustainable manner until completely out of stunting status," he explained.

Furthermore, Doctor Hasto also expressed his gratitude for the support of the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture and his staff and also thanked the President of the Republic of Indonesia for the signing of Presidential Regulation Number 72 of 2021.

"We from the BKKBN express our deepest gratitude because BKKBN has just received the official Presidential Decree that has been issued signed by Mr. President Joko Widodo, where Presidential Regulation No. 72 of 2021 which mandates the Acceleration of Stunting Reduction in the BKKBN is involved as the Implementing Coordinator in the field. The BKKBN realizes that the BKKBN will rush to prepare a National Action Plan, then, of course, there must also be a mechanism and work procedure and also how to monitor the evaluation that we must do in a short time of 3 years or so, the target number is according to the direction of the President towards number 14 percent in 2024”, said doctor Hasto.
