Two-thirds of Indonesians get first vaccine doses

Two thirds of the Indonesian population have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine as of Monday evening (Nov 29, 2021), government spokesperson for COVID-19 Reisa Broto Asmoro said.

“Two thirds of the Indonesian population have received first vaccine doses. Of course, the accelerated vaccination program needs the involvement of all parties,” she said in a statement monitored online on Monday.

By Monday night, Indonesia has received 134,500 Novavax vaccines named Covavax, she said.

The arrival of the vaccine proved the government’s commitment to accelerate the vaccination program. By Nov 28, 2021 the government administered 234.2 million COVID-19 vaccine doses to the Indonesian people.

The vaccinated residents comprise 138.6 million or 66.5 percent of the people who have received their first doses and 45.38 percent who have received second dose or complete vaccine.

Meanwhile, 1.2 million or 83.43 percent of healthcare workers have received third or booster doses.

Reisa further praised many parties that have set up vaccination centers in regions capable of vaccinating one thousand people per day.

The vaccination centers have helped the government expand the vaccination coverage and expedite vaccination in the public.

With the emergence of new variant of COVID-19 named Omicron, she asked the public to remain vigilant, prioritize health protocols . and get vaccinated to protect themselves and other people. (Antaranews)
