Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto is optimistic that the G20 Presidency in Indonesia would be more practical in terms of proffering benefits to all societal elements and not just the elite.

"The public does not know what the Sherpa track is, but what the public is keen to know is what it stands to benefit from the G20," Hartarto stated at the Sherpa Track-Finance Track G20: Working Lunch in Jakarta, Wednesday.

Thus, the series of G20 activities in Indonesia are expected to involve Macro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the events and contribute significantly to the gross domestic product (GDP) to be felt by the community.

The G20 series in Indonesia will feature approximately 150 meetings. Some 18 important meetings will be held each month that are expected to have a significant impact on the implementation of the event for the community.

Hence, all these meetings will continue to be narrated consistently in accordance with President Joko Widodo's (Jokowi's) direction.

Jokowi urged other policymakers, such as business owners, to conduct various activities related to the G20 event to attract the people's attention.

"This will be part of the overall concept of business cooperation and work plans for our economic recovery as well as part of Indonesia's tangible results in the G20 Presidency," Hartarto remarked.

He highlighted at least three main themes carried out in the G20 Presidency in Indonesia, with the first being the global health architecture, wherein Indonesia needs a prototype of a domestically made vaccine that can be immediately distributed.

"It would be better if we can become donors to other emerging market countries to prove our real action and not just remain narratives," he affirmed.

Hartarto remarked that the second theme is digital economic transformation for which several aspects must be prepared to support it, such as through infrastructure, programs, extreme poverty alleviation, and financial inclusion.

The third theme is energy transition that requires clear financing models and commitments, he concluded. (Antaranews)
