The inaugural session of the two-day meeting of the Council of the Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) commenced in Islamabad, Pakistan on Tuesday.
Pakistan is hosting the 48th session of the meeting.
Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan joined the gathering of the foreign ministers of the Muslim world, which was held at the Parliament House of Pakistan, according to a release issued by the Union of OIC News Agencies (UNA) here on Tuesday.
In his speech, Foreign Minister of the Republic of Niger and the chair of the 47th session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM), Hassoumi Massoudou, underlined the objectives of the OIC and emphasized the need for collaborative efforts to address common challenges.
He handed over the chair of the 48th session of the OIC CFM to Pakistan, which was represented by Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi.
Foreign Minister of Saudi Arabia, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al-Saud, Secretary-General OIC Hissein Brahim Taha, Islamic Development Bank president Muhammad Suleiman Al-Jasser, Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wangi Yi are scheduled to address the session.
More than 100 resolutions will be considered during the two-day session.
The meeting will also discuss developments in Afghanistan and their humanitarian consequences for the Afghan people and the situation in Jammu and Kashmir, UNA said in its statement.
Many African issues will also be on the meeting’s agenda, including the situation in Mali, the Sahel region, and Lake Chad, as well as the situation in Central Africa and the Republic of Guinea.
The OIC foreign ministers will also discuss developments in Yemen, Libya, Sudan, Somalia, Syria, and other regions. (Antaranews)
