Indonesia's COVID-19 case count rose by 1,196 on Monday, taking the total tally to 6,033,903, according to the COVID-19 Handling Task Force.

As per data received from the task force here on Monday, the number of people who recovered from the virus increased by 3,978, taking total recoveries to 5,808,380.

Meanwhile, 48 people succumbed to the virus, taking the total death toll to 155,674.

Meanwhile, Indonesia's active COVID-19 cases decreased by 2,830 on Monday, data from the task force showed. Thus, the number of active cases is currently pegged at 69,849.

Further, as many as 3,513 suspected cases were identified, while the number of tested specimens reached 129,600.

The region that recorded the highest daily confirmed cases was West Java, with 340 cases. In the province, 757 people were declared recovered and 10 people died of COVID-19 on Monday.

The province with the second-highest daily confirmed cases was Jakarta, which reported 312 confirmed cases on Monday. It also recorded 665 recoveries and four deaths.

Central Java reported the third-highest daily cases at 126. The province reported 412 recoveries and seven fatalities.

Banten province took fourth place with 93 daily cases, 137 recoveries, and one death. East Java was next with 48 new cases, 125 recoveries, and 10 deaths.

Earlier, the Ministry of Religious Affairs had asked mosque and musalla (prayer room) administrators to form a COVID-19 health protocol task force during Ramadan to prevent COVID-19 transmission.

“Mosques and musallas must have a team that will handle COVID-19 prevention (efforts),” the director of Islamic religious affairs and Shariah development at the ministry, Adib, said.

The formation of COVID-19 task forces in mosques and musallas is part of efforts to prevent COVID-19 transmission from increasing since the pandemic situation in the country is currently under control, he added.

The task forces’ role will be to disseminate the importance of health protocol implementation, as regulated in Circular Number 8 of 2022 regarding the Guidelines for the Implementation of Worship Activities during the 2022 Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr, Adib explained.  (Antaranews)
