Vice President receives visit from Spanish Ambassador

Vice President Ma'ruf Amin received the Ambassador of Spain to Indonesia, Francisco de Asis Aguilera Aranda, at his office in Jakarta on Monday to discuss opportunities to strengthen bilateral cooperation between Spain and Indonesia.

"In the investment sector, there is still much that Spanish investors can do in Indonesia," he said here on Monday.

The Vice President highlighted that investment in Indonesia, apart from its having a large enough domestic and regional market, also has economic potential that has continued to grow.

"I am pleased that the Ambassador explained that many Spanish investors are now starting to use Indonesia as a production base to develop global supply chains," he added.

Amin also called for an enhancement of cooperation between Indonesia and Spain in the aerospace and maritime sectors.

"I also proposed to rebuild cooperation between the two countries in aerospace technology and ship development," he said.

At the meeting, the Vice President expressed the hope that fraternal relations between the people of Indonesia and Spain would continue to be improved, for instance, by strengthening religious and cultural dialogues and cooperation in the education sector.

Meanwhile, Ambassador Aranda said that one essential aspect of the bilateral relations between Indonesia and Spain is cooperation enhancement in the economic sector.

"One of Spain's important roles is through its big companies, which have been operating in Indonesia for a long time, and also through trade relations," he added.

He informed that in the future, Spain will increase imports from Indonesia.

Aranda also invited Indonesian entrepreneurs to explore Spanish products that can be exported to Indonesia and utilize the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between the European Union and Indonesia.

The Ambassador affirmed that many Spanish companies are interested in investing in various projects proposed by the Indonesian government this year, such as in the sectors of cyber security and maritime security patrols.

To this end, he asked the Indonesian government to continue lending its support and attention so that the cooperation can continue to run well. (antaranews)
