The Public Works and Public Housing Ministry (PUPR) has allocated US$5.5 billion, or Rp80.4 trillion, out of the total budget of US$7.2 billion, or Rp105.7 trillion, for 2022 for procuring local products.

"In this fiscal year 2022, we have planned that at least around Rp80.48 trillion of the total budget ceiling of Rp105.7 trillion will be used for spending on local products," the ministry's secretary-general, Zainal Fatah, informed while opening a business meeting entitled "The Role of Domestic Supply Chains to Support the Proud of Indonesian Products National Movement (Gernas BBI)" here on Monday.

Budget spending would continue to be monitored, Fatah said. On May 25, 2022, it was recorded that the figure has exceeded the ceiling, he noted.

According to a written statement, the PUPR Ministry and the Health Ministry were appointed as the organizers of the phase III business meeting under the framework of affirmation actions on the use and purchase of domestic products.

Fatah said both ministries also sought to provide details on several directives issued by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) regarding the acceleration of domestic product (P3DN) use.

According to him, the President's directives are a way to provide a better and greater opportunity to appreciate local products.

One of President Jokowi’s directives states that the commitment to utilize domestic products is at least valued around US$27.4 billion or Rp400 trillion, of which Rp200 trillion is to be sourced from the state budget and Rp200 trillion from the regional budget, he noted.

"For this reason, we see that the President's directive gives awareness that spending on domestic products is to not only be carried out by the central government but also local governments," Fatah said.

He also conveyed Jokowi’s message prohibiting all ministries/institutions from importing goods that are already being produced in the country.  (Antaranews)
