Indonesia has invited Ukraine to the G20 Foreign Minister's Meeting, which will be held in Bali on July 7 and 8, 2022, G20 Co-Sherpa Dian Triansyah Djani informed during an online briefing on Thursday.

"We already invited the Ukrainian foreign affairs minister, but we are still waiting to see if his attendance will be virtual or in person," he said.

G20 is an international forum comprising 19 countries and the European Union that work together to handle major issues. Indonesia is holding the presidency of the grouping this year.

Ukraine is among the 10 countries whose participation in the G20 FMM has been confirmed, in addition to the representatives of 10 international organizations.

The meeting will be attended by the foreign affairs ministers of all G20 countries, most of whom are scheduled to attend the meeting physically in Bali, Djani informed.

"Majority of them will come in person, but I cannot reveal their names due to security reasons and other issues. What is clear is that they have given their commitment to attend," he said.

At the meeting, the G20 foreign affairs ministers will discuss a variety of issues that have become global challenges, including multilateralism, energy, and food.

While the G20 FMM will not produce an official document or communique, the discussion on global issues by the foreign affairs ministers is expected to encourage more concrete cooperation in the future, he said.

Moreover, the FMM will be utilized by the ministers to not only discuss issues during the session, but also to conduct bilateral meetings officially or on the sidelines of the session, he elaborated.

The members of the G20 comprise 20 of the world's largest economies, notably Indonesia, Russia, South Africa, the United States of America, Saudi Arabia, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, India, the United Kingdom, Italy, Japan, Germany, Canada, Mexico, the Republic of Korea, France, China, Turkey, and the European Union.

Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov would attend the Bali meeting, a Russian embassy official in Indonesia told the press , last Tuesday.

Ukraine is not a member of the G20, but  Indonesia which holds the G20 Presidency, can invite officials from non-member countries to attend G20 meetings. (Antaranews)
