The Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture has highlighted the importance of tapping into eight family functions to support children's growth and development.
"Strengthening the eight functions of the family is crucial because the development of human resources starts from the family," the deputy for coordination of improving the quality of children, women, and youth at the ministry, Femmy Eka Kartika Putri, stated here on Friday.
The eight functions of the family are religious function, sociocultural function, love function, protection function, reproductive function, social and educational function, economic function, and environmental development function.
The ministry urged Indonesian women to tap into their role in the family and society.
"To strengthen these eight family functions, a mother has a very important role in revitalizing family functions as the main foundation," she said.
A mother is the first and foremost teacher for her child and also the children around her, she added.
In this era of globalization, Indonesian women must be aware of their role in the family and society.
"With the active (contribution) of all women, they will be able to protect children from negative things as to support human resource development programs," she said.
Putri opined that a quality human resource development program is one of the keys to achieving the vision of Golden Indonesia 2045.
"Development of human resources based on the life cycle is Indonesia's priority to welcome the 2030 demographic bonus and 2045 Golden Indonesia," he said.
The quality of human resources can be gauged from the Human Development Index through the health, education, and income aspects, Putri said.
"At this time, Indonesia's Human Development Index is ranked high, but Indonesia must still be determined to increase the HDI so that Indonesian people will be more prosperous," she added. (Antaranews)
