VOInews, Jakarta: Indonesia hopes that its partnership with the United States (US) can contribute to regional and global peace and prosperity. To that end, President Joko Widodo called on US President Joe Biden, on Monday, to stop the conflict and atrocities taking place in Gaza.

“This is a very painful thing for humanity," President Joko Widodo said when meeting with President Biden at the White House, Washington DC as quoted from an official statement in Jakarta, Tuesday (14/11/2023).

In addition, the President revealed that the United States is one of the most important partners for Indonesia. Therefore, the two leaders agreed to upgrade the partnership between the two countries to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP).

"But the most important thing is that we must really interpret it because for Indonesia economic cooperation is a priority, including in supply chain issues," he added.

On the occasion, President Joe Biden said that the cooperation between Indonesia and the United States which has increased to a comprehensive strategic partnership signifies a new era of cooperation between the two countries in various fields.

"This includes increased cooperation in the security sector," President Joe Biden said.

President Joe Biden considered that Indonesia plays an important role in the clean energy transition. He also committed to continue to enhance cooperation between the United States and ASEAN countries to advance a free, open and prosperous Indo-Pacific region.
