From the 17th ADMM on Thursday, the defense ministers demanded that the United Nations (UN) and the UN Security Council immediately act to prevent violence in the strip from spreading and prevent worsening humanity disaster. The meeting also emphasized the importance of world countries' commitment to upholding international law and protecting civilians. They also asked for a safe route to Gaza to send humanitarian aid.
The participants support the two-state solution based on pre-1967 territorial boundaries, which is in line with international law and UN Security Council resolutions. Indonesian Minister of Defense, Prabowo Subianto discussed Gaza in his remarks, calling the support to Palestinians as "moral obligation".
"We consider it our moral obligation to act like this, and we encourage all countries to take the same attitude to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people who have been displaced from their homes for a long time. The crisis that occurred in other parts of the world also reminds us how important it is for ASEAN to remain united and vigilant," he said at the 17th ADMM opening ceremony in Jakarta on Wednesday (15/11/2023).
Delegations from all ASEAN member countries attended the meeting, except Myanmar. Timor Leste also sent a delegation to the meeting as an observer. (Antara)
