VOInews, Jakarta: The Indonesian public radio network, Public Broadcasting Institution Radio Republik Indonesia (RRI) held a regional meeting and discussion with the theme "The Role of ASEAN Public Media in Supporting Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the Region". President Director of RRI, I. Hendrasmo said this activity was intended to encourage the role of small businesses as a driving force for the economy among countries in the Southeast Asia, or ASEAN, region.

"The event serves as a platform for us to establish meaningful collaboration and explore how we, as public media, can work together to encourage economic progress in our respective ASEAN countries," he said in a remark delivered at the opening of the meeting in Bali on Monday (11/12/2023).

He also highlighted the role of public media in encouraging an increase in the role of small businesses. According to him, public media has the potential to contribute to encouraging economic development through small businesses.

"Therefore, it is vital that we harness the power of public media to encourage MSMEs and provide them with the visibility, support and resources they need to thrive," he said.

Hendrasmo explained that in Indonesia, especially during the pandemic, small businesses have become the backbone of the economy. For this reason, RRI, with its network in all corners of Indonesia, continues to contribute to building relationships between small businesses and the community.

"RRI in various regions continues to be a connector for various MSME activities with consumers. For example, by holding special programs for MSMEs in many RRI Buildings in various regions, including providing exhibition space for MSME products," he said.

"The Role of ASEAN Public Media in Supporting MSMEs in the Region" will be held for 3 days from 11-13 December 2023 in Tuban, Bali. The activity, which was held hybrid, was attended by a number of public media from ASEAN countries.

The forum also presented a number of speakers, such as Dr. Haida Baba Zain from Malaysia's broadcaster RTM, Paham Thi Ha from Vietnamese radio Voice of Vietnam, Naomi Tiburcio from Philippine's television network PTNI/PTV, H.E. Dr. Sles Nazy of Cambodia, and representatives from Thailand and Timor Leste.
