Today, on January 17, 2024, the Indonesian public service Broadcasting Radio Republik Indonesia (RRI) made a new history. RRI officially conducted the first broadcast from the new aspiring Indonesian national capital, known domestically as the Capital City of Nusantara or the IKN.

The inauguration of the RRI broadcasting studio is one of the fourth phases of groundbreaking inaugurations in the city. The Nusantara Capital City Authority (OIKN) said that Indonesian President Joko Widodo also led the groundbreaking for the Pos Indonesia project, the OIKN office, the Indonesian Deposit Insurance Board office, a warehouse area, and a five-star hotel.

President Joko Widodo also broadcast live via the RRI network at the RRI IKN studio, located precisely in the IKN Construction Worker Residential Area. For the first time, the president spoke to the Indonesians via radio in the new capital, on the frequency of 98.3 FM.

The presence of RRI in Nusantara is a part of its statutory mandate. Government Regulation Number 12 of 2005 on Public Broadcasting Institution Radio Republik Indonesia stipulates that the RRI is a broadcasting institution headquartered in the nation's capital, and its headquarters organizes local, regional, national, and overseas broadcasts.

RRI President Director, Hendrasmo explained that in line with the regulation, with the move of the capital city, RRI's physical building was officially located in Nusantara. Hendrasmo explained that in the context of the IKN as a monumental state project, RRI has a strategic role as a broadcasting agent. It plays a role in disseminating information on an ongoing basis about the IKN development. He emphasized that the RRI headquarters move to the city is an opportunity for the RRI to become a witness and main disseminator of information on this national project.

The task of disseminating key information about the capital city of Nusantara is not only at the national level. The RRI Director of Program and Production explained that the RRI is committed to being a window that opens up Indonesia to the world, depicting the richness of nature, culture, and development in the new national capital.

With the RRI's presence in the IKN, the world would know about the city's development and the Indonesian government's pace in the city from accurate sources. It cannot be denied that the rapid development of social media means that anyone can become a transmitter of information. However, the information delivered is not necessarily guaranteed to be correct. The development of broadcasting distributed through various platforms means that each form of media can convey information about the IKN from their respective perspectives. However, through the RRI, the world can find out the latest developments in the city from the Indonesian perspective.

RRI is a window for the world to find out about the capital city of Nusantara. This aligns with its vision, to realize the RRI as a trusted global public broadcaster.
