In a statement to the press, the president said that the COVID-19 pandemic in the early 2020s taught the nation the importance of health facilities in case of emergency. He also lauds the hospital, most of which used domestic components.
"Once again, the Covid-19 pandemic has taught us that the readiness of health facilities is critical, and what the Ministry of Defense has done, in building the Great Commander Soedirman State Defense Central Hospital, will provide support if there is another emergency," said President Joko Widodo.
Besides the hospital, President Jokowi also inaugurated twenty newly built military hospitals, as well as five hospitals that had previously been inaugurated and were fully operational.
"I think the construction of 20 new hospitals and the RSPPN is very important for the TNI soldiers, their families, and the general public," he continued.
As reported by Antara, during his visit, President Jokowi was accompanied by Indonesian Minister of Defense, Prabowo Subianto to check some facilities at the hospital. These facilities include an MRI machine with the highest specification of Tesla 3 that can capture detailed views from all angles, a CT scan device that can scan from all sides to create cross-sectional images of the body, and a sophisticated and integrated modular operating room. The RSPPN hospital is not just a general hospital but also a teaching hospital for students of the Faculty of Medicine of the Indonesian Defense University, also owned by the Ministry of Defense.
