VOInews, Jakarta: Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts a potential disruption to the agricultural sector. This is caused by weather changes from El Nino to La Nina.

“The presence of La Nina can increase rainfall, mainly in the dry season in 2024," said Coordinator for Climate Variability Analysis at the BMKG, Supari in a conversation with RRI on Sunday (17/3/2024).

Supari said that the impact of this phenomenon did not directly cause rainfall. "Rainfall remains low, but above normal and not as usual," he explained.

However, he continued, this still requires anticipation, especially for food or crops sensitive to rainfall. For example, chilies and onions usually require dry weather for optimal growth.

Then, he emphasized the need to manage this situation early to anticipate its impact. "It is hoped that the agricultural sector will be prepared for potential disruptions due to increased rainfall in the dry season," he said.
