VOINews,Jakarta: Indonesian Ministry of Youth and Sports (Kemenpora) envisions the development of Nusantara Capital (IKN) as a model of a new Indonesia that harmonizes technological advancement with cultural heritage.

"The progress at IKN is truly commendable. We anticipate that the development here will showcase a technologically driven Nusantara while preserving local culture," said Andi Susanto, Deputy Assistant for Youth Leadership at Kemenpora, during the ASNFest 2024 event titled "Young ASN in the Nusantara Capital" at the Antara Heritage Center in Jakarta on Saturday.

Kemenpora is advocating for youth involvement in climate change mitigation and cultural preservation as part of IKN's development.

"Youth can play a crucial role in climate change mitigation activities and in developing leadership skills for various initiatives that support regional development," Andi Susanto remarked.

To address concerns about the potential erosion of local culture during the development of IKN, Kemenpora is collaborating with the Nusantara Capital Authority (OIKN).

"We are working closely with Gerbangtara and the Deputy Office of OIKN to minimize the risk of local culture being overshadowed by the new developments," Andi Susanto explained.

In recent years, local youth organizations have been empowered to support young civil servants (ASN) who are transitioning to IKN.

"Kemenpora has a range of programs designed to support this transition," he added.

One of these programs focuses on economic empowerment, promoting entrepreneurship among local youth. Andi Susanto emphasized the need for cross-sector collaboration to fully harness the potential of youth.

"By collaborating with various ministries and agencies, we hope to further develop and maximize the potential of youth in and around IKN," he said.

This initiative aligns with Presidential Regulation No. 43 of 2022 concerning Strategic Cross-Sector Coordination for Youth Service Provision, which involves 27 ministries and agencies.

"This regulation provides a framework to support the transition to IKN, ensuring that social, cultural, and climate mitigation efforts are addressed collaboratively from the beginning," Andi Susanto elaborated.

He also noted that Kemenpora, along with other ministries, including the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Cultural Affairs (Kemenko PMK), has implemented preliminary measures to preserve culture and support human development in and around IKN./ANTARA/VOI
