VOINews, Jakarta: Brawijaya University (UB) made a significant leap at the 2024 National Student Scientific Week (PIMNAS), securing fourth place and taking home eight medals in the prestigious competition held at Airlangga University (Unair). The achievement marks a turning point for UB, which has consistently aimed for the top five in the competition. With three gold medals, one silver, and four bronze, the university's strong showing reflects the dedication and hard work of its students and academic team.

Inggita Kusumastuty, the head of UB's contingent, expressed her gratitude for the team's efforts and the support they received. "We are very grateful for this achievement, as UB had set a target to finish in the top five of PIMNAS 2024. With careful preparation and continuous training, the team was able to exceed expectations," Inggita said. Her statement underscores the university's determination to not only meet its goals but to strive for excellence.

The comprehensive preparation for PIMNAS 2024 began months in advance, with UB's team undergoing rigorous training sessions and receiving continuous support from academic advisors. "Since the experience in 2023, we made significant evaluations. This year, we provided extensive guidance to ensure the success of our team. Even up to the day before the event, they continued to practice diligently," Inggita explained. This thorough preparation proved to be key in UB's improved performance.

UB's fourth-place finish in PIMNAS 2024 is a testament to the university's commitment to scientific innovation and student development. Tim Pembina PKM, Abu Bakar Sambah, praised the efforts of the entire team, emphasizing the importance of perseverance and teamwork. "We are extremely proud of this accomplishment. It reflects the hard work and commitment of everyone involved. We hope this achievement will inspire other students to continue creating and innovating," he remarked.

The gold medals earned by UB were particularly noteworthy. The first gold came from the PKMKC category for their project titled "Early Detection Device for Secondary Caries on Dental Restorations Using Transillumination and 3D Imaging Based on Computer Vision." This innovative project highlights the university's strength in research and development, providing practical solutions to real-world problems. The second and third golds were equally impactful, with UB showcasing its versatility across different scientific disciplines.

UB’s participation in the 2024 competition also highlights the importance of community engagement in its scientific endeavors. One of the medal-winning projects focused on optimizing digital skill training for inmates at Malang's Class 1 Correctional Facility, a social outreach initiative under the PKMPM category. This project not only demonstrated UB's commitment to academic excellence but also its dedication to societal improvement.

The shift from eighth place in 2023, when the event was held at Universitas Padjajaran, to fourth place in 2024 is significant. It reflects not only the hard work of UB’s students but also a strategic recalibration in how the university approaches national competitions. UB has shown that with dedication, proper planning, and innovative thinking, substantial progress can be achieved in a relatively short period.

As UB looks ahead to PIMNAS 2025, the university’s leadership has already begun preparing for the next phase. Continuous evaluation and improvement will be key to maintaining and enhancing their competitive edge. With their sights set even higher, the university aims to further strengthen its reputation in national scientific competitions.

In conclusion, UB's strong performance at PIMNAS 2024 serves as an inspiration to the broader academic community. Their ability to overcome challenges, innovate, and work collectively showcases the power of dedication and strategic preparation. With the lessons learned from this year’s competition, UB is poised to continue its upward trajectory in future academic and scientific endeavors./ANTARA/VOI
