VOI News, Jakarta: Indonesian Minister of Defense, Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, hosted an official visit of Japanese Minister of Defense, General Nakatani, and his delegation at the Ministry of Defense office in Jakarta on Tuesday (7/1/2025).
Brigadier General Frega Wenas Inkiriwang, Head of the Defense Information Bureau at the Ministry of Defense, told the media after the meeting that the Indonesian and Japanese defense ministers discussed strategic matters to strengthen defense cooperation.
“Both Indonesia and Japan explored future potentials, as there have already been numerous accomplishments demonstrated on the ground. There were approximately four main pillars discussed. The first is enhancing high-level communication, recognizing that the relationship between Indonesia and Japan has evolved over recent years, shifting from a strategic partnership to a comprehensive strategic partnership. This is expected to strengthen bilateral relations, including defense ties,” Brigadier General Frega.
Moreover, Brigadier General FregaWenas Inkiriwang also elaborated on other strategic pillars discussed by the two defense ministers, including unit-level cooperation such as the Komodo multilateral naval exercise and Super Garuda Shield, enhanced military personnel exchanges in education, and the promotion of military equipment collaboration.
