The naming of President Joko Widodo's road does not affect Indonesia's support for Palestine

Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko said that the naming of President Joko Widodo's street in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, was a form of the United Arab Emirates' appreciation for the Indonesian nation. In addition, the naming of roads also shows the improvement of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Although the United Arab Emirates is strengthening cooperative relations with Israel, Moeldoko stated that the naming of the road would not affect Indonesia's support for the Palestinian cause.

Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko, Wednesday (21/10/2020) in Jakarta said that the naming of President Joko Widodo's streets in Abu Dhabi shows the development of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and the United Arab Emirates.
According to him, this shows the appreciation of the United Arab Emirates for Joko Widodo's leadership in Indonesia.

Not only the improvement of economic relations between Indonesia and the United Arab Emirates, according to Moeldoko, an increase in cooperative relations between the two countries also occurred in many sectors, including the cultural sector.

"I think we interpret diplomatic relations in a broader sense not only from an economic perspective but from a broader sense of how to build cultural relations, build relations between social sectors and so on," he said.

Although the United Arab Emirates is one country that is strengthening relations with Israel, according to Moeldoko, Indonesia still adheres to the free and active politics that has been running so far.

According to him, Indonesia's position in supporting the Palestinian cause will not be affected even though President Joko Widodo's name is assigned to the name of a street in Abu Dhabi.

"Our foreign policy is a free and active politics and it is believed and carried out by every leader of the country. The second is that our foreign policy towards Palestine has never changed at all. So it remains like that. It will not be affected by naming a road," he added.

President Joko Widodo's name is used as the name of a road section in Abu Dhabi. According to a written statement from the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in the United Arab Emirates, the inauguration of the street name was on 19 October 2020.

The inauguration was carried out by the member and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Office Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and attended by the Indonesian Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates (UEA) Husin Bagis.

Husin Bagis said President Joko Widodo's road is on one of the main roads, which divides ADNEC (Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center) with an area that is occupied by several diplomatic representative offices.

In response to this, President Joko Widodo, through social media, said that naming roads is an appreciation and respect for Indonesia.
According to him, this is an illustration of how close the relationship between Indonesia and the United Arab Emirates has been working together in various fields. (VOI)
