President Joko Widodo calls for all components of the nation to practice Indonesian state philosophy-Pancasila in their daily life. He affirmed that Pancasila reinforces joint commitment to understand, deepen, and practice the noble values of Pancasila as the basic principles of Indonesian society, nation and state. The statement was affirmed by President Joko Widodo in his speech as the inspector of the flag raising ceremony to commemorate the birth of Pancasila at Pancasila Building, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Jakarta, Friday (1/6/2018).
"On this noble occasion, I would like to call for scholars and religious leaders, teachers and cleric, politicians, government apparatus, members of Indonesian Military -TNI and the National Police -Polri, workers and economic actors, and all components of the nation to jointly practice Pancasila in our daily life," the President said.
President Joko Widodo perceived that the united spirit of sharing and achievement will reinforce the steps taken in bringing Indonesia to a developed and prosperous country. He also remarked that every country in the world will always proceed into a plural and diverse society. He added that it is time to share experience in unity in diversity, in tolerance and in building unity and togetherness. Dr. Laksana Tri Handoko has been chosen and inaugurated as Chairman of the Indonesian Institute of Science –LIPI replacing Acting Chairman of LIPI, Bambang Subiyanto. He was inaugurated by Minister of Research, Technology and High Education, Mohamad Nasir at LIPI Auditorium, Jakarta on Thursday afternoon (31/05). After the inauguration, Tri Handoko to media said that LIPI targets to increase three thousand professional researchers in the next few years.
“There are 5 thousand people, but there must be 3 thousand researchers. Maybe, this can be achieved in the next 4 or 5 years. We do not care wherever they are, but they must be qualified, at least holding S2 (master) degree. But we prefer that they are holding S3 (Doctorate) degree, including Diasporas,” Tri Handoko said.
Tri Handoko also explained that there are several priorities done by LIPI, such as continuing LIPI’s research management by following the LIPI’s norms and global standardization, speeding up the increasing capacity and competency of research through human resource improvement and boosting the role of LIPI as provider of supra-structure as well as soft and hard ware of national research. The Government of Indonesia through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia in Jakarta, on Thursday (31 May) held a special meeting to prepare the 3rd Conference on Cooperation among East Asian Countries for Palestinian Development -CEAPAD in Bangkok, Thailand in June. CEAPAD is a ministerial meeting of East Asian countries consisting of ten ASEAN countries, Japan, China and South Korea which are the development partners for Palestine. After the meeting, Deputy Foreign Minister of Indonesia, AM Fachir, said Indonesia through CEAPAD meeting will continue to mobilize support to Palestine and synergize with these countries to realize better conditions in Palestine.
"Senior officials' meeting today is actually preparation for next month's ministerial meeting in Thailand. So the first is in Japan, the second is in Indonesia in 2014, and the third is quite late, four years apart, in Thailand. And this is one of our venues to mobilize support for Palestine and in this connection is in this Southeast Asia region. And we certainly always actively participate in such initiatives, "said AM Fachir.
AM Fachir added that through CEAPAD, Indonesia is also continuously working to improve synergies with East Asian countries to contribute to the realization of peace and capacity building in Palestine. In addition, Indonesia also appealed to all non-governmental organizations and the private sector to engage and contribute through CEAPAD. Indonesia itself has hosted the second CEAPAD meeting in 2014. At that time, the President of Indonesia and the Palestinian Prime Minister formally opened the meeting. The second CEAPAD generates support commitments from Southeast Asian countries in line with the needs identified by the Palestinian Development Ministry. Minister of Public Works and People's Housing, Basuki Hadimoeljono said at the Presidential Office in Jakarta more recently that the government has set up road infrastructure to be passed by the travelers at the upcoming Idul Fitri celebration. He saidthat in Java, the government has set up three national road lanes that have been ready to be used. In addition, the government has also prepared a toll road to smoothen the flow of forthcoming Lebaran or Eid ul Fitri festivity.
“In Java, there are 3 lanes of national road: Pantura (the east coast), the central and Pansela (southern coast) lanes consisting of 1,341 km long in the eastern coast (Pantura), 1,197 km long in the central lane, and 1,405 km long in the south from Bayah to Pacitan. Banyuwangi is still being done this year. So, the total is 3,943 km, 90 percent is in good condition, better from last 2017. In addition to the national road, there are also 760 km long highways from Jakarta to Surabaya, 525 kilometers of them are fully operational. Meanwhile, the functional toll road is 235 km. This is in progress and should be ready by 30 of May. Why functional? Because there is no marker yet, no limits, it is functional, not emergency roads,” said Basuki.
Furthermore, Minister Basuki Hadimoeljono mentioned that to provide comfort for travelers, the government will provide type A rest areas in every 20 kilometers of toll roads.
