Jakarta (voinews): President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has urged regions across Indonesia to build integrated waste management facilities (TPST) like the one in Denpasar, Bali, to prevent waste accumulation, which can create new problems.

The TPST in Denpasar is a good example for other regions to replicate since the facility has a clear design, budget, and construction costs, he said at the inauguration of TPST Kertalangu in Denpasar, Bali, on Monday.

“The TPST in Denpasar is the first waste management (facility) with a simple system but a concrete result. I want this TPST to be replicated by other cities and districts to solve waste problems," he added.

Kertalangu TPST has good management and other regions must copy its integrated waste management system, he said.

After inaugurating the TPST, Widodo and his entourage directly inspected the waste processing facilities at Kertalangu TPST, accompanied by members of the TPST’s management, who were represented by the president director of PT Bali Citra Metro Plasma Power, Made Wahyu Wiratma.

At the event, the head of state was accompanied by the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan; Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR), Basuki Hadimuljono, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung; Bali Governor I Wayan Koster; and Denpasar Mayor I Gusti Ngurah Jaya Negara.

Besides Kertalangu TPST, which has the capacity to process 450 tons of waste per day, Widodo also inaugurated three more TPSTs: Padangsambian Kaja TPST, with a capacity of 120 tons, and Forest Park TPST 1 and 2, with a total capacity of 450 tons.

The PUPR Ministry, the National Development Planning Ministry, the Environment and Forestry Ministry, and the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment, along with the Bali provincial government and Denpasar city government, built the four TPSTs in the period from June 15, 2022, to March 26, 2023, with a budget of Rp128.63 trillion.

The TPSTs will replace the Suwung Landfill Site (TPA), which is planned to stop operating this year.

Suwung TPA is currently one of the largest landfill sites in Bali, which accommodates waste from Denpasar city and Badung district, The final disposal site covers an area of 32 hectares and has been operating since the 1980s. Every day, Suwung TPA can accommodate approximately 1,200 tons of waste.

However, household waste that is being disposed of at Suwung TPA is currently piling up to form mountains of waste. (Antaranews)

Jakarta (voinews): A common currency and monetary union for ASEAN region are not a priority right now as there are many other agendas that need attention, ASEAN secretary general Kao Kim Hourn said on Monday.

Speaking at a public lecture at Universitas Pelita Harapan, Tangerang, Banten, he highlighted that post-COVID-19 pandemic recovery is the top priority in ASEAN today.

"I think the idea of monetary union has been discussed since 20 years ago. There were ideas and discussion but, of course, there's still a long way to go because we have other priorities now," he said.

In addition to post-pandemic recovery, the other current priorities are ASEAN connectivity, the blue economy agenda, and increasing intra-ASEAN trade, Hourn informed.

"These are really the priorities. When it comes to monetary union, it's still very much in disconfusion," he said.

Nevertheless, Indonesia, which is serving as the ASEAN chair this year, has proposed the development of regional payment connectivity for supporting cross-border payments in the region.

The central banks and financial authorities of five countries--Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Singapore—have signed a memorandum of understanding on boosting regional cross-border payments. The QR code systems of the five countries are expected to be linked to achieve this.

Since the signing of the agreement on regional payment connectivity in November 2022, cross-border QRIS has only been used in Thailand. (Antaranews)

Jakarta (voinews): Government spokesperson and ambassador for the adoption of new habits, Reisa Broto Asmoro, has said that the transformation of the referral health service system could ease the state's health burden.

"This is a good step to improve access to referral services for the Indonesian people and reduce the burden of health financing," she observed at a “Health Broadcast,” which was followed from here on Monday.

According to her, the implementation of the transformation of referral services is already visible. The transformation of referral services has become more focused, she said.

Asmoro further said that the transformation of referral services is aimed at preventing an increase in the number of patients suffering from diseases that contribute to the highest number of deaths in Indonesia, such as heart disease, stroke, cancer, and kidney disease.

It is also aimed at preventing severe conditions due to infectious diseases such as COVID-19, tuberculosis, and HIV/AIDS.

She noted that improving a system needs time because there are several services that cannot be optimized yet. Nevertheless, the government is serious about realizing a healthy Indonesia and protecting people from diseases and experiencing severe conditions.

The spokesperson expressed the hope that the transformation that is being carried out in referral health services would improve people's faith in the medical treatment and services provided by health workers or health facilities within the country.

Director for the management of health services at the Ministry of Health, Sunarto, said that the transformations in the healthcare system, which consist of six pillars, are interrelated and important to one another as one unit.

The two main goals of the transformation of the referral health service system are to improve the quality of and access to healthcare. This means that the improvement of access will be focused on so that both health workers and the community can access services at vertical hospitals more easily. (Antaranews)
