PLN Gradually Recovers Electricity Supply (0)
State-owned electricity firm PT PLN has recovered electric power to Balaraja Extra High Voltage substation in Banten Province, and furthermore it will be channeled to Suralaya steam-fueled power plant (PLTU) to gradually recover its operation to reach its capacity of 2800 MW of electricity.
In addition, power supply from Gandul Extra High Voltage substations in Depok, West Java Province, will be channeled to Muara Karang gas and steam power plant (PLTGU) to supply electricity to the Indonesian capital city, Jakarta.
Acting President Director of PLN Sripeni Inten Cahyani said here on Sunday that the power supply to Jakarta was expected to recover within three hours.
"We apologize for the inconvenience today, and currently all efforts have been made to recover the Java-Bali power system, especially in the area of West Java, Banten, and Jakarta," Cahyani said.
The company has focused on power supply to PLTGU Muara Karang and PLTGU Priok to recover the system in the capital city.
Previously, PLN has recovered the operation of hydro-generated power plant (PLTA) Saguling and PLTA Cirata which are functioned as power stabilizer, and, at the same time, supply the electricity to PLTU Suralaya through Cibinong, Depok, Gandul, Lengkok, Balaraja and Suralaya extra high voltage substations.
PLTU Suralaya is expected to return to its normal operation within six hours to normalize power system in West Java and Banten.
Blackout that affected thousands of homes and public facilities in West Java, Jakarta, and Banten was caused by several troubles in the extra high voltage 500 kV transmission of Ungaran - Pemalang.
"PLN has taken its best efforts and will have evaluation to prevent recurrence of today's incident," Cahyani said.

VP: Hope more Indonesian halal products enter global market

"In the future, it is hoped that cooperation in the economic and trade fields can be expanded, [and] at the same time, investment opportunities can be opened up and marketing of Indonesian halal products and services can go to the global market," said Ma'ruf Amin at the virtual launch of ‘The State of the Global Islamic Economy (SGIE) Report 2020/2021’ in Jakarta on Tuesday.
The Vice President also welcomed the improvement in Indonesia's ranking from fifth in 2019 to fourth in 2020 in the SGIE Report 2020/2021.
"I am grateful that in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, Indonesia's Global Islamic Indicator ranking, according to the SGIE Report 2020/2021, has succeeded in being in fourth place, moving up from number five in 2019, and up from ranking 10th the previous year," he stated.
According to the report, Indonesia has managed to expand its Islamic economic ecosystem through several incentives facilitating industry and investment in infrastructure, halal products and services.
The role of the Islamic economy in Indonesia has also seen rapid progress, particularly in the food, fashion, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, tourism, banking finance, and halal recreational media sectors, the report states. This is due to the large Muslim population in Indonesia, explained Ma'ruf.
"We have to take in this increase in ranking by continuing and strengthening Indonesia's Islamic economic ecosystem, so that it can make Indonesia a world-class halal producer and a driving force for the national economy," he remarked.
The Vice President said he is also optimistic that Indonesia's ranking in the development of the Islamic economy can encourage national economic recovery (PEN) by the end of 2021.
"Hopefully, through this strong synergy and collaboration, Indonesia's vision to become a global Sharia economic hub and [a key player in] the world's halal industry, as well as efforts to make Islamic economics and finance as new post-pandemic economic sources can be realized soon," he remarked. Trade Minister Says APEC Is Key To Economic Growth In Asia Pacific
Written by Nur YasminTrade Minister Agus Suparmanto said the importance of building the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) community as the key to economic growth in the Asia-Pacific region.
"The main key for APEC is the ability to build a sense of togetherness as a community to ensure the success of achieving APEC's goals," said the Trade Minister through an official statement in Jakarta, Tuesday.
Minister of Trade Agus Suparmanto conveyed that the sense of togetherness between APEC economies as a community will encourage the APEC economy to achieve its goals.
The dream of APEC to realize regional economic integration and strengthen regional connectivity will be more easily realized if APEC can create a sense of togetherness and the Bogor Goals have created a strong foundation for APEC to make this happen, said Trade Minister Agus while attending the APEC Ministerial Meeting or AMM which took place on Monday (16/11) virtually.
Also attending the meeting is the Foreign Minister Retno L.P. Marsudi.
This meeting discussed the follow-up to the real work program of the APEC forum in supporting APEC's 2020 priorities, including efforts to deal with the pandemic and promote economic recovery in the Asia Pacific region.
APEC's sense of togetherness as a community emphasizes the importance of directing APEC's focus in reducing the development gap among APEC economies, as well as narrowing the gap, especially in the utilization of the rapidly growing digital economy.
The principle of APEC as a community also plays an important role in efforts to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic and economic recovery, which currently continues to be APEC's top priority.
"Indonesia continues to support APEC's efforts in overcoming the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic by enhancing more facilitative policies on trade and encouraging the importance of collective efforts of all economic members to avoid interfering actions that can exacerbate the impact of the pandemic on trade performance," explained Trade Minister Agus.
Through APEC's track record that has shown its role since 1989, Indonesia remains optimistic that APEC can continue its key agendas through various initiatives and capacity building so that the various challenges ahead in the region can be addressed and resolved together.
"It is hoped that the work program that has been agreed upon by APEC can provide concrete results for strengthening the economy in the region, and show a positive signal for the business climate which has been causing uncertainty due to the COVID-19 pandemic," said Agus.
In addition, the Trade Minister also conveyed that in order to achieve APEC's goals in the future, the APEC forum needs to continue to support the multilateral trade system and the re-functioning of the WTO, promote regional economic integration, and strengthen connectivity in Asia Pacific region.

Radio of the Republic of Indonesia Signs MoU With Voice of Vietnam
Written by Nur YasminThe Radio of the Republic of Indonesia (RRI) signs a memorandum of understanding on cooperation with the Vietnamese radio station Voice of Vietnam (VoV) in Jakarta, on Tuesday.
The event was opened by the director RRI Muhammad Rohanuddin and director of VoV Nguyen The Ky, and was attended by the Indonesian ambassador to Vietnam Ibnu Hadi and Vietnam ambassador to Indonesia Pham Vinh Quang.
“With this cooperation, we can work closely and intensify mutual understanding between two people. I appreciate the enthusiasm so we can proceed with the signing online thanks to advancements in the digital age. On behalf of Vietnam, we wish happiness and success,” The Ky said virtually on Monday.
“This MoU enables us to collaborate in cultural exchange between Indonesia and Vietnam, and this is a form of international cooperation that will enhance our bilateral relationship. It is important to promote our cultures to each other’s people,” Rohanuddin said.
In 2014, RRI and VoV signed a similar agreement to exchange information around communication, media, and broadcasting.
“This MoU reinstalment signs a strong commitment that gives positive contribution especially in media. This event is also coincided with the 68th anniversary of Indonesia and Vietnam relations,” Ambassador Ibnu Hadi said virtually from Vietnam.
“This MoU signing is not only sign of development between Vietnam and Indonesia, but also of Asean regional cooperation,” Ambassador Pham Vinh Quang said virtually.

Indonesia Encourages APEC To Provide Global Market Access For MSMEs
Written by Nur YasminThe Indonesian government is encouraging the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum to provide global market access for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) through integration into the digital economy.
This encouragement was conveyed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Minister of Trade when attending the APEC Forum Ministerial Meeting which was held for the first time virtually on November 16, according to a written statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs received in Jakarta, Tuesday.
In her statement, Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi said that the differences of opinion that have occurred between several economies have disrupted APEC's efforts in the last two years. For that, it is time for APEC to put aside differences and restore world confidence.
This can be done through the Post-2020 APEC Vision which will become APEC's fundamental guide for the next 20 years, continuing the vision of the APEC Bogor Goals 1994 which will end this year.
The Bogor Goals are a declaration produced at the 1994 APEC Summit in Bogor, which aims to create a free trade and investment system in 2010 for developed countries, and at the latest in 2020 for developing countries.
With a strong vision, APEC can achieve strong, balanced, safe, sustainable, and inclusive economic growth. To achieve this goal, the Indonesian Foreign Minister emphasized two things.
First, according to Foreign Minister Retno, the APEC collaboration must benefit all APEC members. This can be achieved by increasing connectivity. APEC must continue and synergize various regional connectivity initiatives, put aside competition, and focus on beneficial cooperation.
Second, the Indonesian Foreign Minister continued, the APEC collaboration must be felt by all residents of APEC countries.
Given that MSMEs represent 97 percent of all businesses and more than 50 percent of the collaborative workforce, APEC must focus on efforts to provide access to the global value chain for MSMEs and encourage MSME participation in the digital economy.
"Therefore, the APEC Internet and Digital Economy Roadmap must be able to support the integration of MSMEs into the digital economy," said Retno.
APEC's Post-2020 Vision targets to achieve an open, dynamic, resilient, and peaceful Asia Pacific community by 2040.
There are three main pillars in achieving the Post-2020 APEC Vision, namely trade and investment, digital and technology, and quality economic growth. It is planned that this vision will be endorsed by the APEC Economic Leaders at the 2020 APEC Summit on 20 November 2020, which will also be held virtually.
The 2020 APEC Ministerial Meeting resulted in an APEC Ministerial Joint Statement containing the results of APEC's work for 2020 including efforts to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic, the use of the digital economy and technology, and political support for the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda. President Jokowi consistently conveys messages in 37th ASEAN Summit

"As a wrap-up of the whole 37th ASEAN Summit and other related summits, I can convey a number of things. The President has consistently delivered three issues," Retno Marsudi said while giving a virtual press statement from the Bogor Presidential Palace, West Java, on Sunday.
The first message conveyed by the President is the importance of paying attention to cooperation in the health sector, both in short and long terms, in order to develop regional and world health resilience.
The second message is to encourage cooperation to overcome the economic impact of the pandemic. This cooperation is important for recovery of the world economic conditions, without sacrificing adherence to the health protocols against COVID-19 transmission.
The third message is the importance of maintaining peace and stability in the region and the world in general. The Foreign Minister said that this matter was emphasized by the President because the rivalries among big powers are getting worse.
"Efforts to deal with pandemics and economic impacts will be hampered if peace and stability are not maintained," the Minister said.
In addition to, President Jokowi also emphasized the issue of ASEAN centrality and solidity during the summits. ASEAN must really implement these principles. Indonesia also consistently maintains ASEAN centrality and solidity and will continue to do so, according to Jokowi.

Jokowi emphasizes UN's role in facilitating vaccine access for all
Written by Nur YasminPresident Joko Widodo emphasized the role of the United Nations in facilitating vaccine access for all, while speaking in the 11th ASEAN-UN Summit via teleconference from Bogor Presidential Palace, West Java, on Sunday.
The Indonesian President said that in the short term, the UN must play a role in fulfilling access to medicines and vaccines for all, while in the long term, the UN and ASEAN could collaborate to ensure preparedness in dealing possible pandemic in the future, the Press Bureau of the Presidential Secretariat said in a press statement.
Indonesia believes that improvements to the national and regional health systems can be a strong foundation for improving the global health system, he remarked.
Jokowi also encouraged the UN to maintain diversity and tolerance. He expressed his concern that amid the current pandemic, he witnessed religious intolerance and violence in the name of religion.
"If this is allowed, it will tear apart harmony and foster radicalism and extremism. This must not happen," he said.
As the third largest democracy in the world, Indonesia is of the view that freedom of expression is not absolute. Religious values, symbols and sensitivities must always be respected, he noted.
"At the same time, Indonesia condemns all forms of violence for any reason. Terrorism has nothing to do with religion. Terrorism is terrorism," he stated.
He called on the UN Secretary General to encourage the world to continue to work together, to strengthen tolerance, prevent hate speech, and reject violence for any reason.
"Diversity, tolerance and solidarity are solid foundations for a peaceful, safe and stable world," he said.
In addition to, he also said that the UN must restore confidence in multilateralism. Trust will grow if multilateralism can meet the expectations of the world community, especially in fighting the pandemic, according to Jokowi.

RCEP proves commitments of peace and stability in the region: Jokowi
Written by Nur YasminIndonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said that the signing of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) on Sunday has demonstrated the commitments of peace and stability as well as prosperity within the region.
During the 4th RCEP Summit held virtually, President Jokowi stated that the signing was a historical moment as its process took nearly a decade after being initiated in 2011, and the first round of negotiation was conducted in 2013.
"The signing marks our powerful commitment on multilateralism," Jokowi remarked.
This regional pact that becomes the world's biggest trade agreement covering a market of around 2.2 billion people or 30 percent of the world's population has officially been signed by 10 ASEAN member countries along with their five partners -- China, South Korea, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand.
Jokowi emphasized that all the member states feel the same way about the uneasy process to achieve RCEP. But, again, a strong commitment has made it all possible, he added.
The pact would also intensify the principle of an open, fair, and benefited all-sides multilateral commerce. Furthermore, this provides hope and an optimistic view of economic recovery for the post-pandemic era throughout the region.
"It is indeed an honor for Indonesia to be a country coordinator for the long process (of RCEP dialogue). Therefore, I would like to extend my gratitude and appreciation for every support and constructive contribution from all countries during the negotiation," Jokowi said.
However, President Jokowi emphasized that this Sunday's signing was only a beginning as every single state involved should put their efforts to manage it, and Indonesia is open for other countries to later join this pact.

Jokowi: ASEAN-India Partnership Can Tackle Health Challenges

India can serve as ASEAN's strategic partner in strengthening medical capacity in the region, particularly to mitigate the COVID-19 pandemic, including increasing the production capacity of COVID-19 drugs and vaccines, raw materials for the production of medicines, and conducting joint research and development in the health sector, he said.
"We must encourage access to affordable healthcare for all," the President said while addressing the virtual 17th ASEAN-India Summit from the Bogor Presidential Palace in West Java on Thursday.
In addition to the health sector, the ASEAN-India partnership could be directed towards restoring the regional economy, which has been battered by the COVID-19 pandemic, he added.
He noted that the growth of digital platforms has been able to drive the economy.
As one of the countries with a large and rapidly growing digital economy ecosystem, India can expand cooperation with ASEAN member states, which are also developing their digital economy potential, he said.
Collaboration in increasing cybersecurity is badly needed, he pointed out and lauded India's scholarship program for one thousand ASEAN scientists.

Indonesian Red Cross Ready To Help Distribute COVID-19 Vaccine
Written by Nur YasminChairman of the Indonesian Red Cross M. Jusuf Kalla said IRC was ready to help distribute the COVID-19 vaccination to all corners of Indonesia when the vaccine arrived in Indonesia.
Kalla said this during his presence inaugurating the arenatorium in Makassar, Thursday.
He said IRC had prepared around 230 blood donor units (UDD) scattered throughout Indonesia which functioned as vaccine delivery posts accompanied by thousands of vaccine workers.
Meanwhile, following up on the direction from the Chairman of IRC, the head of IRC South Sulawesi's Public Relations, Syahrul Rustam, said that based on reports that were obtained as many as 200 UDD were ready to assist in the distribution of vaccines in the field.
"Therefore, according to 'Pak JK's' instructions, one of the 200 UDDs is in South Sulawesi, out of 200 UDDs which are confirmed to have two UDDs in South Sulawesi that have operated, one of which is in Makassar while the other UDD is spread across 24 districts/cities," he said.
Based on instructions and directions from the Head of the Central PMI, all volunteers will be fully involved in the vaccine distribution process, but specifically for South Sulawesi, it will be focused on Makassar City through the local UDD.
"'Pak JK' has instructed the role of volunteers to be maximized, especially when distributing vaccines in each region," he concluded.
Regarding this readiness, Chairman of the UDD IRC Makassar Syamsu Rizal said his staff was ready to carry out their duties according to the instructions of the central IRC.

President Jokowi: ASEAN and South Korea Collaboration To Tackle Pandemic

This was conveyed by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) during a speech at the 21st ASEAN-South Korea Summit via a videoconference on Thursday.
"At the end of last year, in Busan, I expressed optimism for the ASEAN-South Korea partnership. Amid this pandemic situation, I remain optimistic. Optimistic that the ASEAN-South Korea strategic partnership can contribute to efforts to fight the pandemic and to recover the economy in the region," President Jokowi said at the Bogor State Palace, West Java, Thursday.
According to the President, this optimism must be realized in two ways, namely collaboration between ASEAN and South Korea in regional recovery and strengthening cooperation in terms of health security.
Collaboration for regional economic recovery is needed to raise new hopes for the community and the business world which can later help leverage the regional economy.
"One of the efforts to raise new hopes for the community is economic integration in the region, including through the ASEAN-South Korea RCEP and FTA. I appreciate South Korea's commitment to regional economic integration and the signing of the RCEP this year," President Jokowi said.
In addition, President Jokowi said ASEAN and South Korea must work hard to ensure global supply chains, including through expanding South Korean investment in Southeast Asia and strengthening ASEAN as Korea's production base.
According to him, digital and technological transformation in MSMEs and strengthening creative economic cooperation can also encourage economic movement in the region.
As for strengthening cooperation in terms of health security, President Jokowi said that economic recovery can only run well if there is health insurance.

The Head of State said that in the short term, the partnership between ASEAN and South Korea must ensure the availability of medicines and vaccines for COVID-19.
