PLN Gradually Recovers Electricity Supply (0)
State-owned electricity firm PT PLN has recovered electric power to Balaraja Extra High Voltage substation in Banten Province, and furthermore it will be channeled to Suralaya steam-fueled power plant (PLTU) to gradually recover its operation to reach its capacity of 2800 MW of electricity.
In addition, power supply from Gandul Extra High Voltage substations in Depok, West Java Province, will be channeled to Muara Karang gas and steam power plant (PLTGU) to supply electricity to the Indonesian capital city, Jakarta.
Acting President Director of PLN Sripeni Inten Cahyani said here on Sunday that the power supply to Jakarta was expected to recover within three hours.
"We apologize for the inconvenience today, and currently all efforts have been made to recover the Java-Bali power system, especially in the area of West Java, Banten, and Jakarta," Cahyani said.
The company has focused on power supply to PLTGU Muara Karang and PLTGU Priok to recover the system in the capital city.
Previously, PLN has recovered the operation of hydro-generated power plant (PLTA) Saguling and PLTA Cirata which are functioned as power stabilizer, and, at the same time, supply the electricity to PLTU Suralaya through Cibinong, Depok, Gandul, Lengkok, Balaraja and Suralaya extra high voltage substations.
PLTU Suralaya is expected to return to its normal operation within six hours to normalize power system in West Java and Banten.
Blackout that affected thousands of homes and public facilities in West Java, Jakarta, and Banten was caused by several troubles in the extra high voltage 500 kV transmission of Ungaran - Pemalang.
"PLN has taken its best efforts and will have evaluation to prevent recurrence of today's incident," Cahyani said.

Indonesia and France Strengthen Cooperation in Sustainable Urban Development

On February 20, 2019, Indonesia and France held the second joint meeting group on sustainable urban development to evaluate the implementation of the results of the previous meeting and to compile a renewal of the 2019-2020 action plan, the ministry said in a statement in Jakarta on Sunday.
Indonesian Minister of Public Works and People`s Housing Basuki Hadimuljono and French Minister of Industry, Digitalization and Innovation Cristhophe Sirugue signed a cooperation agreement in the field of sustainable urban development, On March 29, 2017.
Furthermore, Indonesia and France conducted the first joint meeting group regarding sustainable urban development in October 2017.
The meeting was chaired by Secretary General of the Ministry of Public Works and People`s Housing (PUPR ) Anita Firmanti and Director for European and International Affairs, Ministry for the Ecological and Solidary Transition, Virginie Dumoulin.
"The second meeting discusses the progress of working group including the obstacles in the implementation," Anita Firmanti remarked.
The cooperation must be directed to support the tasks of the Ministry of Public Works and People`s Housing, she remarked.
The first working group discussed urban planning including a plan of cooperation in planning two regions, namely Borobudur in Yogyakarta and the Special Economic Zone of Mamminasata (Makassar, Maros, Sangguminasa, and Takalar) in South Sulawesi.
While the second working group discussed urban settlements. The two delegates discussed arrangement of slum areas in the cities through program of no slum city.
The two delegates agreed to carry out feasibility study in an attempt to develop Eco District in Semarang, Wonosobo, and Yogyakarta.
Whereas the third working group discussed the development of human resources competency in the Ministry of Public Works and People`s Housing and the regional government through short-term training in the fields of urban planning and civil engineering.

Indonesian Foreign Minister to Attend 46th OIC Ministerial Conference

In addition to attending the 40th UN Human Rights Council Meeting in Geneva, Switzerland, Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi is also scheduled to attend the 46th Conference of Ministers of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates. The meeting will be held on March 1 to 2, 2018 themed 50 Years of Islamic Cooperation, Roadmap for Prosperity and Development.
To reporters, Indonesian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Arrmanatha Nasir said that Indonesia in the OIC ministerial meeting would encourage discussion regarding efforts to increase the cooperation of OIC member countries in the fields of economy and science and to handle safe and orderly migration flows.
“For Indonesia, there are several issues that will be of concern related to encouraging increased cooperation between OIC countries in the fields of economics and science and technology. In addition, Indonesia will encourage cooperation support from the OIC for cooperation on the Global Compact for Save, Orderly and Migration,” Armanatha said.
Furthermore, Arrmanatha Nasir said that the 46th OIC ministerial meeting would produce a declaration that gave political commitment to the OIC member countries for various issues related to the theme of the meeting. In addition to the declaration, according to Arrmanatha, the 46th OIC Ministerial meeting will also produce 130 resolutions covering various issues such as financial, political and Palestinian issues.
He added, several issues that would be of concern in the 46th OIC Ministerial Meeting included the progress of the peace process in the world, efforts to fight global terrorism, and the OIC 2025 Action Program. (VOI/ANDY/AHM)

Indonesia to Attend the 40th Session of the UN Human Rights Council
Written by Ani HasanahIndonesian Foreign Affairs Minister Retno LP Marsudi is scheduled to attend the 40th Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland from 25 to 28 February, 2019. The meeting itself is scheduled to be held on February 25 to March 22. To reporters on Thursday in Jakarta, Director of Human Rights of the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Achsanul Habib said that Indonesia's participation is in the context of conveying Indonesia's main point of view regarding strengthening human rights values at the multilateral level as well as achievements and progress at national and regional levels. According to Achsanul Habib, in the UN Human Rights Council Session, Indonesia will put forward the issue of protecting human rights in line with national interests.
“The presence of the Minister of Foreign Affairs at the Human Rights Council Session is a form of Indonesia's commitment in the promotion and protection of human rights values. Of course what we will propose is that which is in harmony with national interests, Indonesia's interests,” said Achsanul Habib.
Achsanul Habib explained some of the agendas that will be discussed in Indonesia's participation in the 40th Session of the UN Human Rights Council including the issue of Palestine, Myanmar, issue of civil rights, economic and socio-cultural rights and the rights of vulnerable groups, women's empowerment, child protection and disability. In addition to attending the 40th Session of the UN Human Rights Council, Indonesia will also hold a number of bilateral meetings at the Minister of Foreign Affairs level. At least 15 bilateral meetings are scheduled to be held by Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi. President and Ms. Iriana Give the Spirit to Recover to Ms. Ani Yudhoyono

The arrival of the President and Mrs. Iriana was immediately welcomed by the first son of the 6th President of the Republic of Indonesia Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono and Mr. Hatta Rajasa. After that, the President and Mrs. Iriana went straight to the 8th floor, where Ms. Ani Yudhoyono was treated.
In the treatment room, the President and Mrs. Iriana were welcomed by SBY and Annisa Pohan. "Thank you for coming, Mr. President," said SBY. The President and Mrs. Iriana then saw Ms. Ani. "We and all Indonesian people pray for Ms. Ani recovery," said the President. After that, the President and Mrs. Iriana talked with SBY next to the treatment room. Also present at the meeting were Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko, Hatta Rajasa, youngest son of President Kaesang Pangarep, Agus Harimurti, and Annisa Pohan. The idea to celebrate International Mother Language Day was the initiative of Bangladesh. It was approved at the 1999 UNESCO General Conference and has been observed throughout the world since 2000.
UNESCO believes in the importance of cultural and linguistic diversity for sustainable societies. It is within its mandate for peace that it works to preserve the differences in cultures and languages that foster tolerance and respect for others.
Linguistic diversity is increasingly threatened as more and more languages disappear. Globally 40 per cent of the population does not have access to an education in a language they speak or understand. Nevertheless, progress is being made in mother tongue-based multilingual education with growing understanding of its importance, particularly in early schooling, and more commitment to its development in public life. Multilingual and multicultural societies exist through their languages which transmit and preserve traditional knowledge and cultures in a sustainable way.

Jokowi Hopes Training Center in Pesantren will Effectively Improve Skills
Written by Ani HasanahPresident Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has expressed hope that the vocational training center (BLK) established in Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) would effectively improve skills of work forces.
"I believe that it could be more effective to improve their skills," Jokowi said at the signing of cooperation on batch 1 community-based vocational training center in Jakarta on Wednesday.
The government, he continued, is evaluating the community-based BLK program. In 2017, it established 55 community-based BLK, and it was increased to 75 training centers in 2018.
In 2019, the Ministry of Manpower would establish one thousand training centers, of which 500 centers would be launched in its first stage.
The president remarked that the training centers' effectiveness could be increased as it is established within the Islamic boarding school complex.
Furthermore, Jokowi has called on the training center to adjust the training material with the industry in the region.
"They (the boarding school) can choose whether they want to have training on information technology, garment, creative industry, or processing of agriculture product. There are many alternatives that they can choose," he elaborated.
The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) has also opened the chance for graduates of the training center to be channeled to companies. (ANTARA)

Ambassador Confirms no Indonesian Casualty in Cairo Bombing
Written by Indonesian Ambassador to Egypt Helmy Fauzi made assurance that no Indonesian had fallen victim to a suicide bombing that occurred in Cairo, Egypt, on Monday night, Feb 18.
"There is no Indonesian casualty from that incident," Ambassador Fauzi stated at the Indonesian Embassy in Cairo, Egypt, as quoted from a statement received here on Tuesday.
The suicide blast occurred behind the Al-Azhar Mosque in Gamaleya District, Darb Al-Ahmar, Cairo, on Feb 18, at around 10 p.m. local time.
The eight casualties resulting from the bombing were three policemen who died; three civilians, one of which is a student from Thailand; and two police personnel, who were wounded.
Among the victims, two policemen had busted the bomber before he eventually pulled off the bomb`s trigger. The local police have identified the bomber as Al- Hasan Abdullah, 37.
All wounded civilians are currently being treated at the Husein Hospital, Cairo, while the policemen are receiving treatment at the Police Hospital.
Gamaleya District, also known as Darosah, is a densely populated area inside the Al-Azhar complex. Apart from being a place to live for Al-Azhar University`s foreign students, one of the famous bazaars in Cairo, Khan El Khalil, is located in the area. (ant)

President Jokowi Orders Not to Have Forest Fires That Disrupt Life

"We want to keep the spirit of this country so that in the future there will be no more highly-affected forest and land fires, especially the occurrence of smoke which disrupts both school children and our lives, and of course also related to aviation. We hope this will hopefully not happen again, "President Jokowi said as Riau Governor Syamsuar told reporters after his inauguration.
Syamsuar stressed that President Jokowi had a very big concern about forest and land fires, because Riau in particular is directly adjacent to Singapore and Malaysia.
Regarding the message, Governor Syamsuar stressed that the Provincial Government (Pemprov) of Riau will conduct a socialization of prevention of forest fires, because Riau also has several dry seasons now.

The Minister of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia, H.E Enggartiasto Lukita and the Trade Minister of the Republic of Korea, H.E Hyun Chong Kim met on 19 February 2019 in Jakarta, Indonesia. The two Ministers discussed ways to enhance trade and economic relations between the Republic of Indonesia and the Republic of Korea. The two Ministers agreed to reactivate negotiations on the Indonesia - Korea Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IK-CEPA). Both Ministers believed that a successful negotiation toward an economically meaningful agreement would serve as a new platform toward a modern and dynamic economic partnership that reflects the strong bond between the two countries. This initiative signals the strong determination of both governments to create a favorable environment that is conducive to expanding two-way trade and investment and to maximizing the potential of the economic partnership.
