The Indonesian Embassy in Beirut has acknowledged its continued support for trade cooperation improvement between Indonesia and Lebanon. Indonesian Ambassador to Lebanon Hajriyanto Y Thohari gave the Primaduta Award to Lebanese businessman and importer, George R Fattouh. The award was given for his service in helping market Indonesian products in Paris from the Middle East. The award was given at a ceremony at the Indonesian Embassy in Beirut, Thursday (11/1) Fatough, is the owner of George R. Fattouh S.A.L, a business that has been importing Indonesian products since the 1980s. It has a range of products, including: palm oil and its derivatives, oil and fats (including cocoa butter substitute, fat spread, hydrogenated palm kernel oil, and lauric confectionery fats), cardboard, stationary, and school equipment. Some Indonesian products are now even available at famous retail networks, such as Spinney’s and Carrefour. In 2022, the value imported by George R. Fattough S.A.L of Indonesian products, was 981.3 million USD. This was a 149.5 million USD increase when compared to 2021. Fattouh said Indonesian products are known for their quality and are in high demand in Lebanese markets. However, he said, the challenge now is increasing freight costs due to security challenges in the region.

Listeners, a number of delicious dishes were served to the guests of Dhaup Ageng Pura Pakualaman Yogyakarta, at the wedding reception of the youngest son of K.G.P.A.A. Paku Alam X, namely B.P.H. Kusumo Kuntonugroho with Laily Annisa Kusumastuti which was held on January 10, 2024.Head of the Customs and Accommodation Division, Dhaup Ageng Pura Pakualaman, KRT Radyo Wisroyo said that the menu served to guests was quite varied. These menus are typical menus prepared by Pakualaman Pura, Indonesian menus and western food menus were also available. All invited guests including VIP and VVIP guests got the same menu. The first menu served to welcome guests, namely two types of welcome drink, namely lime lemongrass and ginger drink with lime. The welcome drink was given when guests sat down and watched the Bedhaya Sidamukti and Bedhaya Kakung Indrawidagda dance performances. Next, they gotsnacks for appetizer such as croquettes and other light snacks. There is a snack that is considered quite special and rare called Garulina. Garulina was the opening snack at the Pahargyan Dhaup Ageng Pakualaman lunch on the first day. Garulina has been around since the era before Indonesian independence. Garulina is actually not a typical Central Javanese food. It looks like the Lapis Legit layered cake, but there is something different, because there is a special layer like vla which is made from fresh milk, eggs and sugar. To get this sweet snack, Pakulaman Temple has to place a special order from the third generation of makers who have been pioneering since the 1950s. In Jogja, Garulina is very difficult to find and is considered rare because it is not sold every day.

First Indonesian Pokemon Game, Pikachu with Batik Launching Soon

Listener, Niantic, Inc. as the developer of the mobile game Pokémon GO, along with The Pokémon Company (TPC), the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, and Garuda Indonesia, are holding a series of exciting activities in the Pokémon Air Adventure collaboration. One of these is Pikachu's Indonesia Journey and the launch of the first Indonesian edition of Pokémon, namely Pikachu wearing a Batik shirt. Pikachu's Indonesia Journey is the biggest Pokémon-themed joint synergy event held in Indonesia from March 2 to March 3, 2024, at Puputan Renon Field, Denpasar, Bali.
This project arose from a conversation between Vice President of Emerging Markets Niantic, Inc. Omar Tellez and Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno at the 2022 Pokémon Festival. According to emerging Markets Head of Niantic, Inc., Refael Siregar, by attracting the interest of domestic and international tourists, this synergy aims to encourage the progress of the Indonesian tourism sector. Refael Siregal further stated that Indonesia is a meaningful market for Niantic, Inc., with a loyal community throughout the archipelago. So, Niantic, Inc. wants to appreciate Trainers by combining Indonesian cultural heritage into Pokémon GO.
Pikachu's Indonesia Journey combines exciting adventures between the real and virtual worlds of Pokémon. Fans can enjoy various fun activities such as booths, games, a very special appearance from Pikachu, and other exciting events.
During the event, Pokémon GO Trainers have many bonuses, access to Special Research and can catch special edition Pokémon, including Pikachu wearing a Batik shirt and Flying Pikachu, who can be seen floating around with balloons. These Pokémon will be available in the game for a limited time only. Apart from Pikachu's Indonesia Journey and Pikachu in Batik shirts, in the future, Pokémon Air Adventure will feature other programs, one of which is Garuda Indonesia's Pikachu Jet.

Indonesian Embassy in Moscow meets voters directly to ensure the 2024 Election success
Written by rahmaThe Indonesian Embassy in Moscow, Russia, together with the Moscow Overseas Election Committee met directly with Indonesian citizens who have the right to vote in various regions of Russia and Belarus in order to make the 2024 general elections a success. According to the Indonesian Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Russian Federation and Belarus, Jose Tavares, the voters meeting was part of the active role of the Indonesian Embassy and the Overseas Election Committee in socializing the 2024 Elections to Indonesian citizens in the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus.
Quoted from Antara state news agency in Jakarta on Friday (12/1/2024), Ambassador Jose Tavares said that direct meetings with Indonesian citizens were held in several cities in Russia, starting from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kazan, to Tomsk. On that occasion, he got many questions about the Indonesian elections and received many positive responses about the Election. He explained that this direct meeting was held in conjunction with community activities, student affairs, sports, religious celebrations, the Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia, and Consular Warung activities by the Indonesian Embassy in Moscow. Apart from direct meetings, the Indonesian Embassy in Moscow also socialized the 2024 Election via the Instagram account and the 2024 Moscow Foreign Election Committee Telegram.
The ambassador also said that both the Indonesian Embassy and the Overseas Election Committee always invited the Indonesian people in Russia and Belarus to continue to prioritize togetherness, brotherhood and peace. Based on the Overseas Final Voter List, the number of voters in Russia and Belarus reaches 1,170 people, most of whom are migrant workers and students. The number is not too large when compared with voters in other European countries. According to the Ambassador, Indonesian representatives in Russia and Belarus are optimistic that voters in their working areas will contribute to the success of the democratic party in holding the 2024 elections smoothly and credibly.

Signing an agreement with Saudi Arabia, Indonesia gets quota for 241,000 hajj pilgrims
Written by RahmaThe Indonesian government and the Saudi Arabian government have signed a Hajj agreement (Ta'limatul Hajj) for the 1445 Hijriah or 2024 Hajj season. This signing was carried out by the Minister of Religion, Yaqut Cholil Qoumas and the Minister of Hajj and Umrah of Saudi Arabia, Tawfiq F. Al-Rabiah, in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on Monday (8/1). According to Minister Qoumas, both countries agreed on several things, one of which is that there are 241,000 Indonesian pilgrims who will depart for Saudi. This number consists of 221,000 normal quotas and 20,000 additional quotas which have been approved by the King of Saudi Arabia. According to Qoumas, this number is the largest in the history of the Indonesian Hajj pilgrimage.
As quoted by the official website of the Ministry of Religion, in 2019 Indonesia received a quota of 231,000 Hajj pilgrims. This number has been reduced by around half due to the Covid-19 pandemic, to only 100,051 pilgrims in 2022. Meanwhile, for the 2023 Hajj, Indonesia received a quota of 229,000 people. The Minister of Religion pointed out that apart from increasing the quota, there are some increases in pilgrimage services agreed in Ta 'limatul Hajj. One of them is related to the placement of the congregation in Mina. The Ministry of Religion of the Republic of Indonesia can determine the position of the congregation's tent which is closer to the Jamarat or the place of throwing the Jumroh, as long as the implementation of the contract is carried out more quickly.
The Saudi Arabian government also gives the Indonesian government the freedom to choose service providers (syarikah) during the peak of the Hajj. According to Qoumas, this opens up the opportunity to choose the best service provider for Indonesian Hajj pilgrims. On the same occasion, the Minister of Hajj and Umrah of Saudi Arabia, Tawfiq Al-Rabiah, stated his commitment to provide the best service for Indonesian Hajj pilgrims. Tawfiq expressed his happiness to be able to serve Hajj pilgrims from all over the world, particularly from Indonesia. Tawfiq further conveyed that the Saudi Arabian government is open to discussions to improve services for Hajj pilgrims.
Besides signing Ta'limatul Hajj, Minister of Religion Yaqut is also scheduled to hold a coordination meeting regarding preparations for holding the Hajj pilgrimage this year. Qoumas has been visiting Saudi Arabia since Sunday (7/1), and is scheduled to be in the country until Thursday (11/1). The peak of this year's Hajj pilgrimage will take place in mid-June 2024.//

Indonesian Ambassador to China and Mongolia, Djauhari Oratmangun, said that the "My Story with China" video competition could help realize the joint ASEAN-China vision. A number of Indonesian students became winners in the "Youth Talents" category, namely Clarissa and Tiffani from the Tianjin Conservatory of Music campus. They performed a piano duet, Wulidha Fitri. Students from Beijing Normal University won in the "Star of Style" category. Meanwhile, Gilbert Lie and his friends from Hebei Normal University won in the "Star of Future'' category for singing the song Haiji de ta ceng shuo -Remember when he said.

University of Indonesia (UI) opens 595 cooperation with 370 higher educations in the world
Written by RahmaThe University of Indonesia (UI) had signed 595 cooperation agreements with 370 higher educations from 47 countries in 2023. Some 302 of them were Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and 293 others were Agreement of Implementation (AoI). Deputy Rector for Human Resources and Assets Prof. Dr. Desi Priadi at UI campus, Depok, Thursday (4/1) said the global collaboration with world's renowned universities proved UI's commitment in becoming a world class university.
He said they did not want UI to be number one in Indonesia only, but to compete at an international level. Prof. Dedi said most of higher education cooperating with UI came from Asia (199) and Europe (126). Besides, UI also joined hands in research, teaching, and research with the best higher education in America, Australia, New Zealand, and Africa. Some 24 universities in the UK also collaborated with UI in 2023.
Meanwhile, University of Indonesia also signed General MoU with some best universities in Europe such as King's College London, University of Leeds, University of Birmingham, University of Glasgow, Leiden University, University of Groningen, Lomonosov Moscow State University, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, University of Bern, and University of Bologna. The General MoU was also signed together with Duke University, University of Washington, and University of California Davis.
Through the Joint Degree program, University of Indonesia students got the chance to obtain a double degree from two universities.

The Indonesian Embassy in Riyadh holds a book review discussion on the life and scientific heritage of Sheikh Nawawi Al-Bantani
Written by MaryatiThe Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Riyadh, through the Education and Culture Attaché, held a book review discussion explaining the life and scientific legacy of Sheikh Nawawi Al-Bantani at the Indonesian Embassy in Riyadh on Wednesday, January 3. Sheikh Nawawi Al-Bantani, who lived from 1812 to 1897 was a leading professor in the Hijaz region and the archipelago in the 19th century.
In his remarks, the Indonesian Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Abdul Aziz Ahmad, said that the Indonesian Embassy in Riyadh is committed to continuing to be at the forefront in inspiring and facilitating activities that enrich Islamic and national insight, especially for the younger generation.
Ambassador Abdul Aziz Ahmad paid tribute to Sheikh Nawawi Al-Bantani as a proud figure in Indonesia and the Islamic world in general. He emphasized the importance of continuing the scientific legacy of previous scholars as the basis for the success of today's Muslims.
Two main speakers and authors of the book Syekh Nawawi Al Bantani Mahaguru Ulama Hijaz & Nusantara 19th Century, namely Mufti Ali and Siti Ma'rifah Ma'ruf Amin, provided an in-depth understanding of the life journey and great services of Syekh Nawawi Al-Bantani.
Mufti Ali in his presentation highlighted the crucial role of these ulama by explaining the data and archives obtained about Sheikh Nawawi from various libraries in Indonesia and the Netherlands. With this data the role and character of these ulama can be scientifically accounted for.
Meanwhile, Siti Ma'rifah Ma'ruf Amin emphasized the role of Sheikh Nawawi Al-Bantani, especially in the Indonesian context, and underlined the importance of this cleric's contribution in maintaining scientific traditions.
On the same occasion, the Education and Cultural Attache of the Indonesian Embassy in Riyadh, Badrus Sholeh, said that the book would be encouraged to be translated into Arabic, so that more readers throughout the world would understand the role of Sheikh Nawawi Al-Bantani in the development of Islamic studies in the world.
Badrus further stated that manuscript research by Nusantara ulama in Hijaz will continue in collaboration with universities and stakeholders in Indonesia and Saudi Arabia, so that it will have a positive impact on Indonesian diplomacy in Saudi Arabia and the Middle East. More than 300 books written by Nusantara Ulama around the 19th Century in the Hijaz. The discussion was attended by 60 people consisting of various figures, students and the enthusiastic general public in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Indonesian Ambassador to the United Kingdom and Ireland receives an Honorary Degree
Written by RahmaThe Indonesian Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Ireland and the International Maritime Organization, Desra Percaya, received an honorary Doctorate in Civil Law from Durham University, England, on Friday (5/1/2024). This honorary title was given in recognition of Ambassador Desra's extraordinary achievements in his work in the field of diplomacy.
In the official statement from the Indonesian Embassy in London, it was stated that Desra Percaya hopes that this award could encourage increased cooperation between the UK and Indonesia. He called the education sector one of the keys that can be utilized to improve bilateral relations between the two countries.
The title of Doctor of Civil Law is the second honorary title from British academic circles for Ambassador Desra. Previously, Ambassador Desra was awarded the title of Doctor Honoris Causa or Honorary Doctorate from the University of Birmingham in 2014.
Apart from Ambassador Desra, several figures on the list of recipients this year include former British National Security Advisor, Lord Darroch of Kew and St Mawes KCMG, as well as London city councilor, Alison Gowman, and Durham-born singer, Dame Sarah Conollykk. Durham University, which was founded in 1832, is the third oldest university in England and a popular destination for Indonesian students.
This year, bilateral relations between Indonesia and the UK are entering their 75th year, and educational cooperation is one of the main pillars of the partnership according to the 2022-2024 Partnership Roadmap.

Indonesia and Cambodia take advantage of their 65-year relations to strengthen bilateral diplomacy

Indonesian Ambassador to Cambodia, Santo Darmosumarto when meeting with the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia, Sok Chenda Sophea on Wednesday (3/1) expressed his commitment to make the strong historical relations of both countries as the basis for concrete trade and investment cooperation for the welfare of both nations. Ambassador Santo also underlined the spirit of the Indonesian Embassy in Phnom Penh to bridge interactions between Indonesia and Cambodia, particularly the younger generation through educational, cultural, and tourism cooperation.
Meanwhile, Sok Chenda has affirmed that stronger people-to-people contacts will result in greater business interactions, because the opportunities that exist are numerous in various sectors. Sok also proposed that the two countries work more closely to achieve common goals in regional and multilateral forums. In this regard, Ambassador Santo expressed his appreciation for Cambodia's support for Indonesia's Chairmanship in ASEAN in 2023. Ambassador Santo emphasized that Indonesia's success as Chair of ASEAN cannot be separated from Cambodia's success in ASEAN in 2022, especially bringing the region out of the pandemic crisis.
Currently, Indonesia is Cambodia's 6th largest trading partner with total trade reaching US$ 965.24 million in November 2023. From this figure, the value of Cambodia's exports to Indonesia reached US$ 70.56 million in 2023 or an increase of 112 percent compared to the previous year. In September 2023, for the first time Cambodian rice was exported to Indonesia, which is a symbol of strengthening trade and economic cooperation between the two countries.
