VOINews, Jakarta - Dean of the Faculty of Biology, Gadjah Mada University (UGM), Budi Setiadi Daryono, stated that artificial intelligence (AI) can be used to support biodiversity conservation in Indonesia.
"AI technology can be used in environmental planning, decision-making, and management based on automated algorithms in order to maintain the quality of an ecosystem," Daryono noted in a statement here on Thursday.
He explained that Indonesia's rich biodiversity can be explored for the development of science and welfare of mankind.
However, he said that exploring the country's biodiversity should be supported by sustainable efforts of preservation and complete, accurate, and valid data.
Daryono highlighted that Metaverse, open science, big data analytics, bioinformatics, biotechnology, and other potential AI technology can help efforts to manage, utilize, and preserve biological resources.
The dean noted that AI can be used for monitoring the health of an ecosystem, reducing the level of human contact with wildlife, and preventing human-animal conflicts through automated information management.
Daryono remarked that in terms of education, Metaverse technology can be a learning and research platform, especially in the subject of biology.
He believes that Metaverse will continue to grow and attract young people into the field of biology.
"The combination of Metaverse and biology lessons will make biology a significant field of science and become a key in the study and exploration of future biology subjects, namely deep sea and exobiology," Daryono stated.
According to Daryono, deep sea and exobiology should be preceded by the current development of big data analytics and bioinformatics.
He emphasized that Indonesia, which has the largest marine biodiversity and two of the world's biodiversity hotspots, namely Sundaland and Wallacea, must adopt various technological approaches.
Moreover, he highlighted the need to reduce and prevent human activities that threaten the country's biodiversity hotspots. (Antaranews)
VOINews, Jakarta - Indonesia expects that its partnership with China can continue to develop and bring prosperity, stability, and opportunities to the people of both countries.
"May our partnership continue to grow and bring prosperity, stability, and opportunities to the people of Indonesia and China," Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto stated at the reception of the 74th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China here on Wednesday.
Hartarto emphasized that economic cooperation between Indonesia and China is important, and the two have established bilateral relations for a long time.
China is one of Indonesia's largest trading and investment partners, he remarked.
In 2022, China's investment value in Indonesia had reached US$8.2 billion and was the second-highest in Indonesia. Total trade between the two countries in that year had also reached an all-time high of US$133 billion, an increase of more than 20 percent as compared to the previous year.
Hartarto also highlighted the importance of building strong and lasting relations between both nations.
Moreover, the Indonesia-China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, which has been running for 10 years, has brought significant benefits for both countries.
Bilateral cooperation between the two has kept growing in the fields of infrastructure development, green industries, and digital economy.
"As a form of our commitment to the digital economy, I am pleased to announce that the Chinese minister of commerce and I recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for cooperation in the field of digital economy and e-commerce," Hartarto remarked.
The MoU serves as a foundation for cooperation in integrating artificial intelligence (AI) technology, improving commercial circulation, optimizing transportation systems, strengthening digital finance, and advancing digital health services. (Antaranews)
VOINews, Jakarta - The Indonesian badminton team is targeting to clinch three gold medals at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.
"We have a target of (bagging) three gold; that is our hope. But I have the goal to (achieve) more than the target," head of coaching and achievement at the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI), Rionny Mainaky, said at PBSI's national training center here on Wednesday.
The three gold medals are expected to be won in the men's group, men's singles, and men's doubles competitions.
According to Mainaky, there is potential to improve the team's achievement at the 2018 Asian Games, in which Indonesia bagged two gold medals, as long as the coaches and the athletes have strong motivation.
He said that going by the China Open Super 1000 tournament, the performance of the athletes is still below expectations. Nevertheless, the positive achievement at the Hong Kong Open Super 500 tournament last week is expected to boost the spirit of the Indonesian team.
"I hope it can become a motivation for them and boost the confidence of our athletes," he added.
In preparation for the 2022 Asian Games, all athletes underwent training after returning from Hong Kong. He said that the players are ready enough to compete in Hangzhou.
The training phase did not start from the initial stage, but focused on efforts to maintain fitness and mental readiness, considering the relatively short preparation time.
In addition, he informed that the athletes who will compete at the 2022 Asian Games were selected based on two indicators — ranking and achievement.
The Asian Games, which were originally scheduled for September 2022, were postponed to 2023.
Earlier, Youth and Sports Minister Dito Ariotedjo announced that Indonesia will send 415 athletes to the games. (Antaranews)
VOINews, Jakarta - Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi has informed that green financing from the financial service industry will be an important part of the strategic plan of his ministry until 2060.
"Transportation investment is indeed expensive, but it can be sustainable and have many benefits for a long period of time," he added at the Green Financing Strategy National Seminar here on Wednesday.
Sumadi explained that to advance green financing from the sustainable railway sector, the Ministry of Transportation has prepared a number of development strategies.
They include building high-speed trains, developing Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) and Light Rail Transit (LRT), and building double tracks.
Further, the development of the urban railway and airport rail link will also be a part of the ministry's strategic plan going forward, he added.
"If the productivity is high, urban mass transportation must be built," he said.
The minister added that Indonesia, through Law Number 16 of 2016 on the Paris Agreement to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), has committed to reducing emissions by 29 percent by 2030 and achieving net zero emissions by 2060.
This is in accordance with the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) climate action plan, which is Indonesia's commitment document to the world through the UNFCCC in response to global warming and climate change.
According to him, the transportation sector currently contributes 18 percent to the total national emissions. Through the ministry's strategic plan, carbon and transportation emissions are targeted to be brought down to zero percent by 2060.
He further said that based on the latest data from the ministry, 35 million people travel within Java Island every day. However, the number of people using mass transportation is only 3 million.
Therefore, the government is targeting to shift at least 50 percent of the people to mass transportation in the next few years. (antaranews)
