VOInews, Jakarta: The 78th session of the UN General Assembly raised the theme 'Rebuilding Trust and Reigniting Global Solidarity: Accelerating Action on the 2030 Agenda and Its Sustainable Development Goals Towards Peace, Prosperity, Progress and Sustainability for All'. Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi said the theme was inseparable from the global achievements of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Summit.
"And this year the timeframe for achieving the SDGs is halfway through, but only 12% of the SDGs targets are on track, as stated yesterday by the UN Secretary-General. Therefore, global efforts are needed together to accelerate the achievement of SDGs," Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi said while attending the High-Level Week meeting of the 78th UN General Assembly Session, in New York, as stated in an official statement received by VOI in Jakarta on Wednesday (20/9/2023).
The Foreign Minister also said that in his remarks, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, conveyed a message that the world must unite to face various global challenges.
"Currently, we are entering a multipolar era that presents new opportunities to realize justice in international relations. However, multipolarity does not by itself guarantee peace. Therefore, strong and effective multilateral institutions are needed to realize peace," the Foreign Minister said.
The Foreign Minister also revealed that the UN Secretary-General said that the current global governance is not supportive and that the UN Security Council and the Bretton Wood System are obsolete and need to be reformed.
"The Secretary-General also said that the world is polarized between North and South, East and West. Therefore, multilateralism must be revitalized to reflect the current situation and be able to face global challenges," she explained.
In addition, the UN Secretary-General also said that more compromises are needed to realize peace and prosperity along with the importance of peace in achieving the SDGs.
"Without peace, the SDGs will be increasingly difficult to achieve. And the Secretary-General also reiterated the need for a 500 billion USD stimulus fund to accelerate the achievement of the SDGs," she added. (VOI/Ranov)

"(They include) as many as 969,308 items of online gambling content, 8,954 items of illegal fintech content, and 1,211,571 items of pornographic content," he detailed in a press release on Tuesday.
According to Setiadi, the ministry had also handled 9,607 findings of gambling sites inserted into government websites.

He also drew attention to the findings of 1,931 bank accounts related to gambling.
Setiadi emphasized that his ministry had made several breakthroughs in handling negative content, especially online gambling content. On September 14, 2023, Minister Setiadi issued Communication and Informatics Minister's Instruction Number 1 of 2023 on the eradication of online gambling.
"The Ministry of Communication and Informatics has carried out preventive and proactive efforts to eradicate various (types of) online gambling or slot gambling content in all platforms within seven days from September 14, 2023," he remarked.
He explained that in accordance with the ministerial instruction, the ministry's Director General of Informatics Application, Semuel Abrijani Pangerapan, is tasked with identifying the bank account numbers and phone numbers used by people indulging in online gambling.
Moreover, the director general is tasked with carrying out anti-online-gambling education and dissemination of information.
In addition, Pangerapan is tasked with instructing electronic system providers (PSEs) to not facilitate the spread of online gambling content and to be committed to abstaining from activities that support, promote, or communicate with parties that are suspected of being involved with online gambling.
The minister further said that his ministry is also improving the capabilities of machines and human resources for handling negative content to boost the coverage of content verification and handling.
Especially for handling online gambling content, the ministry is carrying out crawling of Uniform Resource Locators (URLs) and bank accounts related to negative content and intensifying applications for blocking bank accounts through the Financial Services Authority (OJK).
The ministry is also establishing more intensive cooperation with digital platforms to moderate negative content, he remarked.
"Furthermore, (the ministry is) increasing supervision of Internet Service Providers and (establishing) cooperation with attorney offices to carry out monitoring against content and issues in digital space," he remarked. (Antaranews)
VOINews, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) on Tuesday urged the Indonesian contingent to finish in the top 10 in the final standings at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.
The target set by President Widodo is higher than the goal of finishing in the top 12 fixed by Minister of Youth and Sports, Dito Ariotedjo.
"I think (finishing in) the top 12 is far from enough. Hence, I am hoping for the top 10," he remarked during a send-off in Jakarta for the national contingent that will represent the country in the 19th edition of the multi-sports event.
The head of state reminded the delegation that in the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia managed to rank fourth.
"I am aware that there will be a difference between competing as the host and not. Therefore, my target is for Indonesia to finish in the top 10," he said.
He then expressed optimism that the national contingent will be able to achieve the target.
"You will compete as representatives of the people, nation, and country. I am expecting you to achieve optimum feats and bring home as many gold medals as possible," he told the athletes.
On the same occasion, Minister Ariotedjo informed that Indonesia is fielding 413 athletes in 30 of the total 40 sports branches that will be competed at the quadrennial sports event.
Elaborating on the target, the minister said that it was set considering the absence of several mainstay sports, including pencak silat, at this year's Asian Games.
"At the 2022 Asian Games, Indonesia will likely lose some gold medals on account of the absence of pencak silat, paragliding, jet ski, and MTB (mountain bike) racing," he pointed out.
The Indonesian contingent will begin its quest for medals on Tuesday in cricket, men's and women's beach volleyball, and men's football.
In addition to President Widodo and Minister Ariotedjo, several officials attended the send-off, including Human Development and Culture Coordinating Minister Muhadjir Effendy, chairperson of the Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI), Raja Sapta Oktohari, and the Indonesian contingent's Chef de Mission (CdM), Basuki Hadimuljono.
The leaders of national sports federations also attended the event. (Antaranews)
VOINews, Jakarta - The Indonesian Migrant Workers' Protection Agency (BP2MI) has said that placements in the manufacturing and fisheries sectors are dominating a program for placing Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) in South Korea under a government-to-government (G-to-G) scheme.
"Based on the trend in the placement of our migrant workers from year to year, especially those managed by BP2MI through the G-to-G scheme, this shows an increasing trend," BP2MI principal secretary Rinardi informed in a statement released here on Tuesday.
The increase in PMI placements is in line with the government's efforts to be fully present in supporting their placement abroad, he said.
The number of PMI placements in the manufacturing sector in 2021 was recorded at 112, Rinardi said. The figure increased to 8,811 in 2022. As of September 19, 2023, the number has reached 6,238.
In the meantime, PMI placements in the fisheries sector were recorded at 61 in 2021. They jumped to 2,734 in 2022 and 2,705 in 2023.
Rinardi said that working abroad is covered by Article 27 Paragraph 2 of the Constitution, which guarantees the right to decent work.
"Currently, the G-to-G scheme is in effect in three countries, including Japan, South Korea, and Germany. In the near future, the scheme will be opened to Saudi Arabia in the health sector," he informed.
Meanwhile, the head of BP2MI, Benny Ramdhani, appealed to the public to follow the official channels to work abroad.
"If you go abroad to work through official channels, there is a process, you have to take part in training, learn the customs and language of the destination country," he said.
However, if people go abroad to work through unofficial channels, they may face problems.
"Don't be persuaded and promised a high salary or other lures. All of this is a method of fraud," he cautioned.
"If you go abroad to work through official channels, people must have their health checked. But if there is no such procedure, there is a suspicion that it is illegal. So, (we must) prepare ourselves to welcome a better future," he added. (antaranews)
