VOI News : Indonesia and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) are committed to continuing to be major contributors in creating and maintaining peace and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific. This was pointed out by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Retno Marsudi when speaking in Roundtable I session on the 3rd Indo-Pacific European Union Ministerial Forum in Brussels, Belgium.
In a statement received in Jakarta on Saturday (3/2), she also explained that ASEAN has already had a concept, namely the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP), and ASEAN also started implementing it during Indonesia's chairmanship of ASEAN last year.
“I also affirmed that ASEAN opens the door to partner with all parties, including the European Union. And, I explained the cooperation priorities that ASEAN wants according to the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific, namely connectivity, infrastructure, achieving SDGs, trade and investment,” Minister Retno explained.
Furthermore, Minister Retno Marsudi at the Roundtable meeting explained the importance of respect for international law and multilateralism. She also remarked that ASEAN and the European Union were partners in maintaining continued respect for international law.
Minister Retno perceived that consistency in implementing respect for international law must be applied to all issues, such as Ukraine and Palestine. (VOI-Ndy-Mar- AF)
VOI News : Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Retno Marsudi attended the 3rd Indo-Pacific European Union Ministerial Forum meeting in Brussels, Belgium. In her speech, she highlighted the challenges facing the world from year to year, which are getting bigger starting from the war in Ukraine, the situation in Gaza, ongoing great power rivalry to capacity gaps among countries that hinder the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
She also affirmed the importance of the forum to strengthen collaboration, cooperation and partnerships to advance prosperity and stability in the Indo-Pacific. Minister Retno remarked that Indonesia had made these efforts in its ASEAN Chair last year, including through holding the ASEAN Indo-Pacific Forum (AIPF) and strengthening relations with the Pacific Islands Forum (PIF), and the Association of Indian Ocean Rim Countries (IORA).
“ We don't want to see the Indo-Pacific region become a field of rivalry. What we want is the Indo-Pacific as a growth center,” Minister Retno conveyed.
On that occasion, Minister Retno further affirmed that cooperation in the Indo-Pacific must be inclusive, concrete, and adhere firmly to international law and collaboration paradigms. These principles are contained in the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP) as a guide of ASEAN in navigating dynamics in the region and interacting with its partners from outside the region.
She perceived that the European Union as a partner of Indonesia and ASEAN plays an important role in realizing a peaceful, stable and prosperous Indo-Pacific. (VOI-Ndy-Mar- AF)

VOI News : Assistant Minister for Trade and Manufacturing, Senator Tim Ayres holds a visit to Indonesia. His arrival is to reinforce the commitment of Australian government to increasing bilateral cooperation in the field of trade and investment.
“ Indonesia is home to more than 270 million people and is on the tract to be one of the world’s largest economies by 2040. Australia is well positioned to be part of this growth,” Ayres said.
While in Jakarta, Senator Tim Ayres will also address the Foreign Policy Community of Indonesia on the potential for Australi - Indonesia relationship. He looks forward to engaging with Indoneisan and Australian business and investors to hear their ideas on bolstering economic partnership of both countries.
Moreover, ahead of Australia’s hosting of the ASEAN- Australia Special Summit in March, Senator Tim Ayres will attend meetings at the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta to see how the two countries can boost their trade under recently upgraded ASEAN free trade agreement.
“ I will also visit a dairy production project supported by the Australian Centre for Agricultural Research andKONEKSI, a partnership of Australia and Indonesian Universities to address water and energy security,” Ayres explained.

Jakarta, VOI News : Australia has strong commitment to increase bilateral cooperation with Indonesia. There is an opportunity to do more, in the region’s interest, and in line with each government’s aspirations for future economic activity.
This was said by Assistant Minister for Trade and Manufacturing of Australia, Senator Tim Ayres to Media at the event of Foreign Policy Community of Indonesia in Jakarta on Friday (26/1).
“ But there are structural challenges that Australia and Indonesia face, and that the region faces, that require cooperation between us, and our business and investment communities to resolve.The environmental and economic impact of climate change on Australia and Southeast Asia creates an urgent imperative to decarbonise in the most efficient, low cost way possible. It is not just a decarbonisation challenge – it is a development challenge, shifting economies from developing low-income status to developed industrial high-income countries,” Tim Ayres pointed out.
Moreover, Senator Tim Ayres has further explained that the challenge cannot be overcome with isolated public sector investment in regional economy by regional economy. But Ayres has said that it requires bilateral and regional collective effort and partnership of the business and investment coming to face the challenge.
“Increasing food price volatility and a growing regional population means we need to realise gains in farm productivity through greater research and development in agricultural production, sustainability and food processing.All the region's nations have a role to play, supporting each other's development, resilience and sovereignty,” Tim Ayres conveyed.
He also stated that Australia and Indonesia must lead by strengthening bilateral relationship and by working together in the region. He said the Southeast Asia Economic Strategy of Australia lays out a practical pathway to unlock two-way trade and investment opportunities until 2040 which is based on existing trade agreements in the region, particularly the Indonesia–Australia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IA-CEPA ). // VOI RRI / Australian Embassy in Jakarta //
