I end from Dusseldorf, Germany. After being shaken by a number of earthquakes last July, Indonesia again sought to promote the natural and cultural charm of Lombok Island, West Nusa Tenggara -NTB to German citizens. The Indonesian Consul General of Frankfurt, Toferry P. Soetikno, said that despite several earthquakes occurred, the earthquakes affected not all regions in Lombok. He gave an example, the South Lombok region can still be visited by tourists. In addition, the rebuilding process is also being carried out in the northern part of Lombok on which in the near future, it is expected for the foreign tourists to come. Soetikno in the Indonesian tourism promotion event in the Dusseldorf City on last Thursday (10/25) stated that Lombok has risen again and is safe to visit post-earthquake. In the promotional event themed "Indonesia: 17,000 (seventeen thousand) Islands of Natural and Cultural Beauty" there were around 50 people from various travel agents and tourism bureaus from the Dusseldorf City and surrounding areas.
That was Diplomatic Corner.
Every October 28th, the Indonesian nation commemorates the Youth Pledge Day. On October 28, 1928, Youths from various regions in Indonesia swore one homeland, one nation, one language: Indonesia. The Youth Pledge of 1928 is a very important milestone, becoming the foundation in building a pluralistic nation within the framework of the Unitary State of Republic of Indonesia. This was affirmed by Speaker of the House of Representatives –DPR, Bambang Soesatyo.
Quoting idntimes.com report, when attending the National Dialogue with the theme 'Ideology of Pancasila in the Era of Openness and Digitization,' in Surabaya, East Java, Sunday (28/10), Speaker Bambang Soesatyo affirmed that the values in the Youth Pledge are appropriate with the spirit of Pancasila formulated by the founders of the nation, especially in the third principle, Indonesian Unity. In addition, the diversity which is the wealth of the nation must be strongly maintained as the motto ‘Unity in Diversity’.
On that occasion, he reminded that the advancement of information and technology, especially through social media, brings about not only positive progress. But it also negative influence. Discourse, narration and propaganda wars also bring about the swift flow of information that cannot be stopped, including the development of any beliefs and doctrines that is not in line with Pancasila.
Speaker Bambang views that the efforts are needed to re-instill the ideology of Pancasila into the hearts of every Indonesian citizen. At least, there are four main lines that can be carried out. First, it is through the regulation in which Pancasila ideology stabilization law is needed so that the establishment of Pancasila ideology becomes a national system in constitutional politics. Secondly, it is through a policy that is currently carried out by President Joko Widodo in which every policy carried out by the government is the manifestation of Pancasila values. Third, it is through education by instilling the values of Pancasila through formal, non-formal and informal education. Fourth, it is through main and social media as a means of socializing the strengthening of Pancasila ideology.
Meanwhile, Coordinating Minister for Politics, Law and Human Rights, Wiranto in the socialization of the Presidential Instruction for the State Defense in Sidoarjo, East Java (29/10), as quoted by detik.com, said that Pancasila is the nation's ideology. This means that as Indonesian loyal citizens, they have to deeply study the true meanings and values of Pancalsila.
In addition, Minister Wiranto also said that Pancasila cannot be separated from the Unitary State of Republic of Indonesia –NKRI because both are final and must be defended by the Indonesian people. Because, both Pancasila and NKRI have created a lot of advantages for the nation.
That’s My Indonesia!
RRI VOI with Today in History. A regular segment which brings back people and events from this date in the Past as recorded in history.
I’ll begin with October 30, 1910 Henry Dunant, founder of the Red Cross from Switzerland, dies.
Jean Henri Dunant, better known as Henry Dunant, is a Swiss businessman and social activist. While traveling on business in 1859, he witnessed the consequences of the Battle of Solferino, a location which today is part of Italy. He wrote his memories and experiences in a book entitled “A Memory of Solferino”, which inspired the formation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in 1863. In 1901, Dunant received the first Nobel Peace Prize ever awarded, over his role in establishing the International Red Cross Movement and initiating the process of forming the Geneva Convention. A Norwegian military doctor, Hans Daae, who once received a copy of the book, advocated the Dunant case to the Nobel Committee. The Nobel prize was awarded to Dunant and Frédéric Passy, a French peace activist who founded the Peace League and who was active with Dunant in the Alliance for Order and Civilization. On October 30, 1910 Henri Dunant died.
Turning to October 30, 1945 Brigadier General Mallaby of the Allied Forces leadership was killed in Surabaya and triggered the November 10th battle. Aubertin Walter Sothern (A.W.S.) Mallaby or also known as Brigadier General Mallaby from England was killed during the shootout on October 30 in Surabaya. The incident triggered a British ultimatum and the Battle of November 10th erupted. Brigadier General Mallby was the commander of the 49th Brigade Indian Division with a force of around 6,000 troops which was part of the Allied Forces Netherlands East Indies (AFNEI), Allied forces were sent to Indonesia after the completion of World War II. They were tasked with disarming the Japanese army, freeing Japanese prisoners of war and returning Indonesia to the Dutch East Indies under the administration of the Netherlands Indies Civil Administration. Mallaby's death caused Major General E.C. Mansergh, who replaced Mallaby issued an ultimatum to Indonesian forces in Surabaya on November 9, 1945 to surrender weapons without conditions. Finally the Battle of November 10th broke out because the Indonesian side ignored this ultimatum.
I’ll conclude with October 30, 1946, the Republic of Indonesia currency begins to circulate.
Oeang Republic of Indonesia or ORI is the first currency owned by the Republic of Indonesia after independence. The government considers it necessary to issue its own money which does not only function as a legitimate payment instrument but also as the main symbol of an independent state. ORI appeared in the form of one-cent banknotes with the drawings of an unsheathed kris on one side and the text of the 1945 Constitution on the other side. ORI was signed by the Minister of Finance at the time A.A. Maramis. On that day it was also stated that Japanese money and Javasche Bank money were no longer valid. Although the ORI distribution period is quite short, the ORI has been accepted throughout the Republic of Indonesia and has helped fuel the spirit of resistance against the invaders.
