The 3rd Summit of Asia Pacific Rainforest Held in Yogyakarta

The 3rd Asia Pacific Rainforest Summit is being held in Yogyakarta starting from April 23 - 25. After opening the summit on Monday, Minister of Forestry and Environment, Siti Nurbaya Bakar explained that there are many agendas of forest protection on the biennial meeting.

“Firstly is to restore degraded forest landscapes and to protect forest with high conservation value. Secondly, from the summit, we can formulate national policy to protect rainforests as the precious treasure in the world, besides supporting economic development by preservation,” Siti Nurbaya Bakar said.

Minister Siti Nurbaya Bakar moreover said that the 3rd Asia Pacific rainforest summit is also aimed to develop national system to protect forest. The 3rd summit which is being held until Wednesday 25/4, consist of presentation from representatives of Asia Pacific countries, meeting among officials, scientific meeting, and visiting social forest area in Gunungkidul as well as Merapi protection forest. The first Asia Pacific Rainforest Summit was held in Sydney in 2014. The second one was held in Thailand in 2016. (KBRN/Munarsih/trs.yati/NT)
