President Joko Widodo Calls for Muslims to Strengthen Unity through Mosques

President Joko Widodo calls for young Muslims to use the mosque as a means to strengthen ‘Silaturrahim’ or social ties and fraternity in Indonesia. This was stated by the President while attending the 13th National Congress of Youth Communication Board of the Indonesian Mosque in Jakarta on Wednesday (25/4).

In his remarks, President Joko Widodo said that the mosque as a means of worship for Muslims has the potential in a bid to strengthen unity of the nation. He remarked that the unity of the Ummah is a great capital to build Indonesian nation to become a great country with all the potential it has.

“To become a great economic country, Indonesia must get through many tests. We must get through all obstacles. Therefore, in this occasion, let us work together to preserve our beloved country. I am positive that Indonesia will reach its glory. Let’s spread brotherhood and unity through mosques,” President Joko Widodo said.

On the occasion, President Joko Widodo also mentioned that Indonesia is currently establishing closer relations with the Middle East countries. He said that Indonesia as the country with the largest Muslim population in the world has a strong basis to have a strong relationship with the countries in the Middle East. In addition to building stronger economic cooperation, Indonesia can also contribute to building peace in the world. The President exemplifies the role of Indonesia that has been chosen to mediate in the conflict in Afghanistan. The trust, according to the President, has been given by the President of Afghanistan Ashraf Ghani who has appointed Indonesia to be a mediator in resolving conflict in Afghanistan. (VOI/Ndy/RHM)
