Indonesia Supports Peace on the Korean Peninsula Featured

Indonesian President Joko Widodo welcomed developments on the Korean Peninsula in particular the outcome of the High Level Summit between the Republic of Korea and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (RDRK).

Therefore, Indonesia strongly supports the peace efforts being explored by Korean President Moon Jae-in and President of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea Kim Jong-un.

Indonesia's support for the peace of the two countries was conveyed directly by President Joko Widodo upon receiving the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea to the Republic of Indonesia, Kim Chang-beom, and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea to the Republic of Indonesia, An Kwang Il.

"I just held a meeting with the Ambassador of North Korea and Mr. Ambassador of South Korea who in essence Indonesia is very supportive of the peace process that exists," said President at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Monday, April 30, 2018.

The President explained that Indonesia hopes and gives full support for the peace process of both sides to be continued in agreements that affect the peace process in the region and of course around the world.

"He mentioned that there will be a follow-up process of the two presidential meetings in exchange for separate families, as well as processes in the construction of offices for communication links from South Korea and North Korea," he added.

Furthermore, in the meeting with the ambassadors of both countries, President Joko Widodo conveyed Indonesia's readiness to participate in the peace process if needed. In fact, Indonesia is ready to facilitate the planned meeting between President Kim Jong-un and President of the United States, Donald Trump.

In addition, the President also discussed the preparation of the Asian Games which will take place in August 2018 in Indonesia.

Furthermore, the President hopes that the Asian Games will not only become sport event but also friendship and peace event. Both ambassadors expressed their full support for the success of hosting the Asian Games.
