The Indonesian Embassy in Dakar succeeded in assisting to repatriate seven Indonesian crew members who previously experienced a shipwreck accident in Senegalese waters. The seven crew members arrived by a Turkish Airlines flight at Soekarno Hatta International Airport in Banten on Monday (23/8).

Previously, on Wednesday(4/8), the Indonesian Embassy in Dakar received a report of the sinking of the Brika Ship, a Spanish-flagged fishing vessel, due to a leak at one point in the hull. A total of 25 crew members, including 7 Indonesian crew members who worked on the ship, were rescued. The embassy immediately brought all Indonesian crew members to the Indonesian Embassy in Dakar, considering that the ship owners could not be responsible for providing temporary accommodation for these Indonesian citizens in Dakar.

While waiting for their return, the Indonesian crew members participated in the celebration of the 76th Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia at the Indonesian Ambassador's House in Dakar, along with a number of other Indonesians. One of the crew members of the Brika ship, Murtani expressed his gratitude for not feeling alone in facing this disaster abroad. He was also very grateful to Indonesian Ambassador to Dakar, Dindin Wahyudin and his staff who have accommodated him well in Dakar and facilitated his return to Indonesia.

Before releasing the crew members, the Indonesian Embassy in Dakar provided clothing, food and medical equipment for the crew during the trip. In addition, the Indonesian Embassy also ensured that all required travel documents for crew members, including a PCR test result certificate with a negative result, have been met.

The success of the Indonesian Embassy in Dakar in ensuring the return of the seven crew members was inseparable from the support provided by the company that recruited crew members in Indonesia and the Indonesian Consulate General in Istanbul that helped ensure the smooth transit of the seven crew members at Istanbul Airport.
