According to the Acting Head of the Jakarta Tourism and Creative Economy Agency, Gumilar Ekalaya, film is one of the biggest contributors to Jakarta’s Gross Regional Domestic Product (PDRB) from the creative economy. Based on the study report on the preparation of the Jakarta Creative Economy GRDP conducted by BPS in 2018, it reached Rp 256.44 trillion. Of that amount, film, animations and videos grew 9.65% or reached Rp919.47 billion. Therefore, the Jakarta Tourism and Creative Economy Agency launched an international film event, Jakarta Film Week (JFW) 2021 to increase economic growth, especially from the creative industry sector.

JFW is an international film festival in Jakarta, Indonesia, that screens various genres of short and long films from local and international filmmakers. In addition to the film screenings, JFW also comes with various other programs to support filmmakers and the film industry. The implementation of JFW is to adjust with the current conditions by holding JFW both in person and virtual or online on November 18 - 21 2021. On that date, the programs that will be implemented include screening long and short films from various countries, funding story ideas selected in the Jakarta Film Fund, Masterclass for professional film workers, discussion of current issues in the film industry, and also community as a forum for exchanging experiences and strengthening networks.

Selected feature films and short films will compete to win the Global Feature Award, Global Short Award and Direction Award. Industry players also have the opportunity to showcase their works in the Exhibition and Showcase rooms which are located in the main location of the festival.

Jakarta Film Week will be held offline and online through Vidio.com. All programs and information related to Jakarta Film Week can be accessed on the www.jakartafilmweek.com page.

As part of the pre-festival event for the 2021 Jakarta Film Festival, the Jakarta Tourism and Creative Economy Office will hold Road to Jakarta Film Week 2021 by showing 4 thematic films. The selected films are curated by Nia Dinata (Director), Asmara Abigail (Actor), and Amir Siregar (Critic) who represent their respective fields of expertise.

The films come from three time periods 1950-1969, 1970-1989, and 1990-2010. These films include "Asmara Dara'' (1958) by Usmar Ismail, "My Love in Flats'' (1987) by Nya' Abbas Akup, "Opera Jakarta" (1985) by Sjumandjaja, and "Love" (2008) by Kabir Bhatia. The films were chosen based on the consideration of the depiction of the capital city of Jakarta in cinema, aesthetic approach, as well as the socio-political conditions at that time and their impact on film considerations in Indonesia. The four selected films can be watched during the festival through Vidio.com and tickets are free.
