President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) encouraged ASEAN and the United Nations to strengthen collaboration for the sake of creating peace in the region and the world. The Head of State said that comprehensive cooperation between ASEAN and the United Nations needs to be translated more concretely.

One of them is through strengthening the ASEAN-UN communication and dialogue mechanism. According to him, a hotline (standby channel/communication network) between the UN Secretary-General and ASEAN Foreign Ministers needs to be established.

This was conveyed by the President at the ASEAN-UN Summit at the Sokha Hotel, Phnom Penh, Cambodia, Friday (11/11/2022).

"To detect early and respond quickly to various potential regional challenges that have a global impact and vice versa," he said.

"ASEAN and UN collaboration must be strengthened for the sake of regional and world peace," he said.

On this occasion, President Jokowi also called for the spirit of UN reform to not be extinguished.

President Jokowi said that the United Nations must be the guardian of multilateralism in order to find the best solution for world problems. "The United Nations must continue to push for the war to be stopped immediately," the President said.

The ASEAN-UN Summit in Cambodia was attended by ASEAN leaders and UN Secretary General Antonio Guteres. On that occasion, President Jokowi expressed his appreciation to Guteres for his hard work in overcoming various crises. (RRI)
