UN Secretary General, US President Praises Indonesia As G20 Host

The country guests at the G20 Summit praised the organization of the conference and President Joko Widodo's leadership.

President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Thomas Bach attending a luncheon at the Bamboo Dome at The Apurva Kempinski, Nusa Dua, Bali. He expressed his appreciation for the holding of the G20 Summit.

Bach said the theme of the G20 Summit Recover Together, Recover Stronger was in accordance with the IOC's new motto, namely Faster, Higher, Stronger, Together.

“The G20 motto perfectly echoes the new Olympic motto,” said Bach, quoted by TVRINews, Wednesday (16/11/2022).

Prior to Bach, praise and appreciation had also been addressed to President Joko Widodo who was considered capable of encouraging dialogue in the interests of all citizens of the world. One of them is the President of the United States Joe Biden.

President Biden was the only head of state who made a gesture of respect by raising his right hand to forehead level when meeting President Jokowi upon arriving at The Apurva Kempinski, the location for the G20 Summit.

Through its official Instagram, @POTUS hopes to continue working with Indonesia in preserving system-based rules and international interests that adhere to human rights.

"Indonesia is an active and crucial partner for the United States," Biden continued.

Likewise, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida expressed his appreciation to President Joko Widodo for his role in the G20 Presidency. The two met at The Apurva Kempinski, on Monday (14/11) afternoon.

"I want to continue to work with Indonesia in dealing with issues in the region as well as new issues at the global (level), including efforts to create a free and open Indo-Pacific," said Fumio Kishida.

Then, the Russian Government through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, also previously voiced its respect for the Indonesian Presidency at the G20 because it brought a unifying message.

"We welcome the constructive approach of the current Indonesian leadership to advance a unifying agenda under the motto of post-crisis global economic recovery," said Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova on Thursday (10/11).

Furthermore, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese via his personal Instagram account @albomp on Monday (14/11), called Indonesia a friend who has the same views on peace and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific.

Not only state officials, the Secretary General of the United Nations (UN) António Guterres also saluted Indonesia's leadership at the G20. According to Guterres, Indonesia, which has taken the lead in geopolitical tensions that have triggered economic turmoil, has succeeded in encouraging dialogue among the G20 countries.

"I admire what Indonesia has done as (holder of) the G20 Presidency, under President Joko Widodo," said Guterres. (RRI)
