Victims' Evacuation Extended until October the 11th

Head of Data Center, Information, and Public Relations at the National Disaster Mitigation Agency-BNPB, Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said the number of dead victims due to the quake and tsunami in Palu, Donggala, Sigi, Parigi Moutong, Central Sulawesi reached 1,763 people. In a press conference held in Jakarta on Sunday (7/10), Sutopo explained that the number of victims keeps rising after the joint Search and Rescue Team (SAR) successfully evacuated 111 bodies buried by mud and ruins of buildings in a number of locations.
“During yesterday's evacuation, the joint Search and Rescue Team coordinated by the National Search and Rescue Agency found 111 bodies. Based on the data 106 of them were found in Palu, and 5 of them were found in Sigi. If we look at the data of the victims found in Petobo, Balaroa, Biromaru, and based on the coordination meeting in the National Assistance Post on Saturday (6/10), the evacuation is targeted to finish on 11th of October 2018 in accordance to the applied emergency response period,” said Sutopo.
Although the disaster emergency response will end in the next few days, Sutopo ensured that the evacuation process would still continue. However, the personnel and equipment to be deployed in the evacuation post the emergency response period will be less than the amount before the end of the disaster emergency response. The decision was made due to the factor that the number of victims is still possible to rise as there are still many buried victims who have not yet been evacuated. Sutopo said as many as 1,519 dead victims were found in Donggala, 159 people in Donggala, 69 people in Sigi, 15 others in Parigi Moutong, and a victim was reported found dead in Pasangkayu. Meanwhile, 265 people are missing, 2,632 are injured, and as many as 152 people were buried under the ruins.
