VOInews.id: Indonesia will deliver a statement at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague, Netherlands. Indonesia, represented by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Retno Marsudi, is scheduled to deliver an oral statement next Friday (23/02/2024).

"The Indonesian Foreign Minister will deliver Indonesia's oral statement before the International Court of Justice in The Hague on 23/2," wrote the ministry on its account on social media X on Sunday (18/02/2024).

The ICJ session was held in response to a UN request asking for the court's opinion regarding the Israeli occupation of Palestine.

"The International Court of Justice will hold hearings on the status & legal consequences of the Israeli occupation of Palestine from 19-26/2," wrote the ministry.

On December 30, the UN General Assembly adopted Resolution A/RES/77/247 which requested an advisory opinion from the ICJ regarding the legal consequences of Israeli policies and actions in the Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem. The ministry said that the hearing is a follow-up to the UN General Assembly's advisory opinion request. Fifty-three countries and three international organizations are scheduled to deliver oral statements.

Previously, South Africa sued Israel at the ICJ over the genocide case committed by Israel in the Gaza Strip. In its ruling on January 27, the court did not mention a ceasefire in Gaza but called on Israel to take preventive measures and punish direct military campaigns to commit genocide. Israel has also been ordered to allow humanitarian aid into Gaza and asked to report back to the court within a month.
