Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Antonio Tajani, after following the meeting with G7 member countries' foreign ministers at the Munich Security Conference in Germany on Saturday (17/02/2024) said the end of the conflict will facilitate the unconditional Israeli hostage release and help the Palestinian civilians in need for humanitarian aid.
He added that ending the conflict would also start a negotiation, which is expected to create peace. On the other hand, G7 foreign ministers also condemned the Hamas group and ignored their political role in Gaza after the war ended.
G7 also supported the Palestinian Authority in the Israeli-occupied West Bank but demanded a revamp so it could be a "protagonist" in Gaza. The G7 foreign ministers also condemned the violence by Israeli settlers against Palestinians in the West Bank, which has been increasing since the Hamas attack on October 7.
Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Saturday said the criticisms demanding Israel to stop military operations in Rafah effectively say Israel loses the war against Hamas. In his statement, Netanyahu implied that Israeli troops would still enter Rafah, even if the hostage release negotiation was agreed.
The G7 statement showed the strengthening global concern for war victims in Palestine. G7 as the world's biggest economies is expected to stop Israel's oversaturated attack that not only retaliates against Hamas' attack, but even further, erases Palestine from the world.
More than 28,000 Palestinians died in Israel's assaults in the Gaza Strip. Israel's land assault plan on Rafah in southern Gaza, near the Egypt border, would bring worse consequences for civilians there, mainly when Rafah shelters 1.5 million Palestinians fleeing from war.
