Kuwaiti Embassy in Jakarta Reveals Achievements of Relations with Indonesia on National Day Celebration

VOInews.id, Jakarta: The Kuwait Embassy in Jakarta held a celebration event of the 63rd Kuwait National Day and 33rd Kuwait Liberation Day in Jakarta. Chargé d'affaires of Kuwaiti Ambassador to Indonesia, Abdullah Yateem Alfadhli, in his speech, explained the achievements of Indonesia-Kuwait relations. This is related to the 56th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, since they first began on February 28, 1968.

"Hopefully (we) looking forward to the growth and continuation of relations towards broader fields and higher horizons through their development in the present and the future for the good of the two friendly peoples," said Abdullah at the Raffles Hotel Jakarta on Friday (23/02/ 2024).

 

Abdullah said the trade balance between the two countries in 2023 will reach US$ 500 million. This number increased by 60% compared to last year, even slightly exceeding the 2019 trade balance before the COVID-19 pandemic. Abdullah also touched on Kuwait's charity activities in Indonesia from 2016 to 2023, which reached more than US$135 million.

 

In his speech, Abdullah briefly mentioned the role of KUFPEC investment in Indonesia. Since 1986, the Kuwaiti international oil company has invested in several oil exploration projects in Indonesia.

 

"Kuwait Foreign Petroleum Exploration Company KUFPEC, whose investments reached large amounts, in oil exploration projects in Natuna (Riau Islands), Seram (Ambon), Buton (Southeast Sulawesi), and Anambas (Riau Islands), is evidence of the depth of oil cooperation between the two countries," Abdullah said in Arabic, which was translated in writing on the screen in Indonesian and English.

 

At the end of his remarks, Abdullah congratulated Indonesia on holding the 2024 general elections on February 14. Abdullah also emphasized the solidarity of the Kuwaiti leadership, government, and people with the Palestinian people.

 

"We ask Almighty Allah for mercy for the (Palestinian) martyrs and a speedy recovery for the injured," said Abdullah.

 

At the event, the Indonesian Minister of Manpower, Ida Fauziyah, was the guest of honor. Kuwait National Day marks the end of Kuwait as a British protectorate on June 19, 1961. Meanwhile, Kuwait Liberation Day refers to the liberation of Kuwait from Iraq on February 28, 1991, during the Gulf War.
