According to the United Nations (UN), the Israeli attack forced 85 percent of Gaza's population to flee to various places. This occurred amidst a blockade that paralyzed supplies of food, clean water and medicine. In addition, 60 percent of the infrastructure in the region has been damaged or destroyed.
The US president's office, the White House, last Wednesday (13/3) acknowledged the gravity of the "humanitarian crisis" in the besieged Gaza Strip where so many civilians died and daily necessities became scarce.
White House spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre said it was a factor that prompted the US to begin efforts to distribute humanitarian aid by air.
Related to this, the US is also making new plans to build a temporary dock to facilitate aid deliveries by sea.
According to Karine Jean-Pierre, innocent Palestinian civilians need food, water and medical assistance. For this reason, Washington wants to ensure that as much aid can come in as possible, because there is a humanitarian crisis currently occurring in Gaza. In addition, the United States government has also urged Israel to do more, in order to reduce the loss of more victims. However, Israel did not respond well to this.
United Nations Secretary-General, Antonio Gutteres earlier this week called for a ceasefire. He said, even though the holy month of Ramadan had begun, bloodshed was still ongoing in Gaza. In fact, this month Palestinians, who are predominantly Muslim, carry out the obligation to fast. He also said Ramadan was a time for peace and called on political, religious and societal leaders to make every effort to empathize, act and make peace. However, Israel also ignored this appeal.
Israel has been sued at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on charges of committing genocide. An interim ruling issued by the ICJ last January ordered Israel to stop acts of genocide and take action to ensure that humanitarian aid reaches civilians in Gaza.
The genocidal acts carried out by Israel in Gaza are very clear. However, none of the efforts that have been made have been able to stop Israel's brutality.
In the name of humanity, it is urgent to take more concrete and faster action from all parties, including by the United Nations and Israel's close allies to stop Israeli attacks, or at least reach a ceasefire to prevent greater casualties.
