The 3rd Summit for Democracy, A Solution for Democracy Challenges

South Korea would host the 3rd Summit for Democracy on March 18-20, 2024 under the theme "Democracy for Future Generations".

The summit began with a ministerial-level meeting and a roundtable discussion of experts on March 18. On the second day, there would be some panel discussion and workshops, led by civilians. While the peak event - the Summit Plenary Session will be held virtually on March 20.

 

Some 300 delegates including government officials, international organizations representatives, academics, and civilians gathered in South Korea, discussing policy enhancement and strategic roads towards a better future for the next generations.

 

The Summit for Democracy was held for the first time in 2021, virtually led by US President Joe Biden. Representatives from 110 countries along with civilians and the private sectors took part in the conference that focused on three main topics namely protection from authoritarianism, corruption eradication, and human rights advocation.

 

Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi who attended the Summit for Democracy in Seoul, on her Instagram on Sunday (17/3) said that she came to fulfill South Korea's invitation and speak at the ministerial level meeting. Besides, Minister Retno also had a talk with some partners.

 

Earlier, in the 2nd Summit for Democracy in Seoul, President Joko Widodo who joined virtually put a spotlight on a strong and healthy democracy.

 

Indonesia that held the G20 Presidency in 2022 and ASEAN Leadership 2023 has the experience in navigating regional and global communities in facing challenges. In the G20 Presidency, Indonesia put emphasis on the importance of revival together after COVID-19 pandemic. Meanwhile, as ASEAN leader, Indonesia focused on making ASEAN as the epicentrum of growth.

 

Global democracy development is a key that is expected to provide an alternative solution for the world's problems. Even more, democracy gives a chance for everyone to speak, grow, and overcome problems together.

 

Creating a peaceful, stable, and prosperous world is a collective right and responsibility of all nations, big, small, developing, or developed.
