"We must not lose or back down just because of this incident. Of course, we have to learn a lot, we have to create a system that covers all possibilities of the same incidents happening again," Nezar said at Bentara Budaya Jakarta in Jakarta on Tuesday (25/5/2024).
Deputy Minister Nezar emphasized that his ministry will take mitigation steps to deal with various bad possibilities in the cyber world. He also said his ministry would carry out investigations on the issue.
"Of course, we are not so easily frightened. "We are trying to mitigate and we are also trying to carry out investigations and, of course, action will be taken," he stressed.
According to him, Indonesia already has several guidelines that have been created. However, hacking attempts will continue to occur.
"These guidelines have already been made. But of course, attempts to hack, create viruses, disrupt, and all that kind of thing continue to happen. In Indonesia, several regulations have also been made. The BSSN (National Cyber and Crypto Agency) has also issued sort of standards for this security," he said.
Nezar assesses that cyber attacks are one of the global risk categories. In fact, according to him, the World Economic Forum also stated that cyber security is one of the top five global risks. Therefore, every country will pay attention to security aspects in the cyber world.
"So I think with advances in technology and the internet becoming increasingly connected throughout the world, like it or not, the issue of cyber security is becoming very important. And all countries in the world are adopting important protocols to maintain the security of their data," he explained.
Nezar explained that several public services have currently begun to be restored. Examples are immigration services and public services under the Indonesian Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment.
Responding to the ransom demand from hackers, Nezar emphasized that his ministry would take other methods. That is because the object attacked was important state-owned infrastructure.
