VOINews, Jakarta:The Indonesian Embassy (KBRI) in Madrid reported that no Indonesian citizens have been reported among the casualties or affected individuals in the recent floods that struck Valencia, Spain.
According to a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Citizen Protection and Services Unit (PWNI) in Jakarta, the embassy has been in close coordination with local authorities and has established communication with the Indonesian community in Valencia. KBRI Madrid confirmed that around 200 Indonesian citizens reside in Valencia, based on their consular registration data.
The embassy has advised all Indonesian nationals in the area to remain vigilant and avoid regions severely affected by the flooding, as there could be further risks of subsequent disasters. Indonesian citizens in emergency situations can reach out to the KBRI Madrid hotline at +34 619 31 23 80.
Heavy rains have battered Spain since Tuesday, October 29, with the regions of Andalusia and Valencia facing the most severe consequences. The KBRI Madrid reported that the death toll in Valencia has now reached approximately 200 individuals due to the flooding.
In response to the disaster, Valencia’s authorities have issued a maximum red alert, leading to the closure of over 60 major roads and multiple alternate routes. More than 1,500 military personnel have been deployed to assist emergency services in the affected areas.
Spain’s Minister of Territorial Policy, Angel Victor Torres, announced a three-day period of national mourning for the victims, which will last from October 31 to November 2./ANTARA/VOI
