Ministry of Education and Culture Underlines the Importance of Maintaining Unity, Harmony and Brotherhood

The 11th Indonesian Language Congress is held in Jakarta, 28 to 31 October. The Congress which carries the theme "Making Indonesian Language and Literature Work" presents 27 key speakers and 72 selection speakers from both inside and outside Indonesia. In his remarks at the pre-opening congress on Sunday (October 28), the Indonesian Minister of Education and Culture Muhadjir Effendy said that Indonesia has three biggest assets which, if safeguarded, would make it easier for Indonesia to become a big country.

“That the biggest asset, the greatest gift from this nation is the first unity, the second is harmony, and the third is brotherhood. If we can maintain these three, then we will be easy and able to quickly reach and become a large and advanced country, whose dignity is on a par with other big and advanced nations,” said Muhadjir Effendy.

Furthermore Muhadjir Effendy said, every issue and matters that would threaten harmony and the spirit of brotherhood must be avoided and overcome, so as not to develop and not threaten this unity. The Minister added President Joko Widodo also always reminds the importance of building unity, harmony and brotherhood. At the 11th Indonesian Language Congress, Minister of Education and Culture Muhadjir Effendy launched several linguistic and literary products, including Indonesian Braille Large Dictionary, Language book and Language Map, Online Indonesian Language Proficiency Test, and Language Indonesia for Foreign Speakers. In addition, the Minister also gave a number of awards, namely Adilingual, Literature award, Linguistic Leadership Award, 2018 National Language Ambassador, and 2018 National Poetry Musicization Festival.
