The visit of the High Commissioner for Human Rights of the United Nations (UN), Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein to Indonesia received a positive response from the Indonesian government. In his visit, Zeid raised several issues related to human rights in Indonesia. The government of Indonesia declared no regret, because through the visit, the commissioner has obtained a lot of information related to Indonesia, especially the implementation of human rights that have been carried out. This was affirmed by the Indonesian Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva, Hasan Kleib in Jakarta recently.

“...Why there is no regret is that I do not want any omission that from 2014, almost four years, he only heard the reports if there was an incident. During his term of office in Geneva, he has listened to reports coming in; nobody has reported any positive matters. Why I do not regret it? We do not want any omission. He is told every day that there is an incident but he does not know where Indonesia is and how large Indonesia is; he does not know whether in Indonesia its people are open,” Hasan said.

Furthermore, Hassan Kleib added he had told Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein that Indonesia is not a perfect country without human rights shortcomings. However, Indonesia has to provide human rights protection to all its citizens. The visit of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights was on the invitation of the government of Indonesia as a form of government transparency on humanitarian issues. Even though his visit coincides with some revisions of the Criminal Code, which Al Husein considers to discriminate the minorities, he even said that after his three-day visit, the UN High Commissioner of Human Rights was amazed to see how vast Indonesia is.
