Welcome to My Indonesia! Today, we’ll bring you the topic, Social Forestry and Timber Legality Verification System –SVLK Support the Achieving the Goals of the International Forestry Strategic Plan

Escalation of access and ownership of local communities through the 12.7 million hectares of Social Forestry program, and 4.1 million hectares of Land Reform Object (TORA), is one of Indonesia's efforts to support the United Nations Strategic Plan for Forest (UNSPF) 2017-2030, including the Voluntary National Contribution (VNC).

This was conveyed by Dr Agus Justianto, Head of Research and Development and Innovasion, Environment and Forestry Ministry at the 13th United Nations Forum on Forests –UNFF 13 in New York on May 7 to 11. In addition, Indonesia also held the Timber Legality Verification System to promote the sustainable forest management. Agus Justianto also said in the meeting Indonesia expressed its commitment on the six Global Forest Goals in Voluntary National Contribution –VNC that has been ratified through multi-stakeholders mechanism.

The UNFF 13 finally produced two important documents namely document Forest-Based Solutions for Accelerating the Achievement of Sustainable Development Goals –SDG and Transformation towards Sustainable and Tough Community. The second document is UNFF13 Omnibus Resolution covering various steps to the implementation of the UN Strategic Plan to UNSPF Forest. As the following step from the result of UNFF 13, Agus Justianto viewed that Indonesia needs to complete Voluntary National Contribution VNC, to encourage the development of sustainable national forestry.

Meanwhile in the near future Indonesia will also increase cooperation with the Nationbal Focal Points (NFP) of other international agreements such as the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the UN Convention on Biodiversity (UNCBD), the United Nations to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) and international agreement for conservation and the sustainable use of wetlands.

In the five-day session, the Indonesian delegation, besides from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, were also representatives from the National Forestry Council, the Indonesian Association of Forest Concessionaires (APHI), Permanent Mission of the Republic of Indonesia PTRI New York and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Indonesian Minister of Industry Airlangga Hartarto said that the Islamic Boarding School (pesantren) has potential to support the implementation of the 4th industry revolution or Industry 4.0 in Indonesia. In the road map of Making Indonesia 4.0, one of the national priority steps that needs to be done is to empower the micro, small and medium enterprises. Minister Airlangga Hartarto when he accompanied President Joko Widodo in a president’s working visit at Pesantren Bayt Al-Hikmah in Pasuruan, East Java on Saturday (12/5) mentioned that during this time, the Islamic Boarding Scool (pesantren) also contributed to encourage economic growth. There are already many pesantren have built various cooperatives unit both in small scale or medium scale businesses, some even have incubator businesses. Minister Airlangga Hartarto also said that the Ministry of Industry is intensively implementing new industry business and the development of industry unit in the area of pesantren namely Santripreneur. Nearly 70 percent of Indonesian businessmen implementing their business in the sector of Micro, Small and Medium entrepreneurs. These are quite strong capital in facing 4.0 industry revolution. Minister Airlangga Hartarto also added that pesantren has a big potential to create new business and grow the small and medium industry sectors. Based on data from Religious Ministry, during 2014-2015, there are almost 29 thousands pesantren spread in all provinces in Indonesia with more than 4 million pesantren students (santri). From the total of Islamic boarding schools, about 23 thousands pesantren or 80 percent of them are located in 4 provinces namely West Java, East java, Central Java and Banten. With the improvement of digital era nowadays, the Minister is optimistic that the santri are able to be agent of strategic changes in developing the Indonesian nation and economy in the future. Up to 10 years ahead, Indonesia will enjoy demography bonus when the country’s population are dominated by productive ages with 15 to 64 years old to 70 percent. Currently, Indonesian economy is in the 16th rank in the world. In accordance with an aspiration in Making Indonesia 4.0 the Minister hoped, Indonesia becomes the world's top 10 most powerful economy in 2030. Therefore, the Industry Minisry is committed to support the development of the national small and medium industries in the digital economy era, by developing e-commerce platform or e-Smart IKM. Minister Airlangga said that the industry ministry in cooperation with a number of marketplacs to give e-Smart IKM workshop to several regions in Indonesia. The minister also hoped, the santri can utilize the opportunities. Meanwhile, Director General of small, medium industry, Gati Wibawaningsih has stated that her office has targeted 18 Islamic Boarding Schools (pesantren) to be model in implementing the Santipreneur program this year. The pesantren are located in 8 regions in West Java, 5 regions in Central Java, and 5 regions in East Java.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Retno L.P. Marsudi has held a bilateral meeting with her counterpart from Brazil, Minister Aloysio Nunes Ferreira in Bogor, West Java on last Friday (11/5). This visit to Indonesia was the first for Minister Ferreira. Indonesia and Brazil have established strategic partnerships since 2008. This visit is a good momentum for both countries to improve bilateral relations and to revitalize existing and bilateral partnerships. In addition, both Ministers also utilized the meeting to expand market access for Indonesian products in Latin America, such as fish, palm oil, and rubber. During the meeting, both of them also discussed efforts to improve trade, agriculture and people-to-people contact via free visas. In addition, the meeting also discussed the issues of multilateral and regional cooperation that are of mutual concern. The result of the bilateral meeting is the approval of 3 documents by the two Ministers, namely the Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of the Republic of Indonesia and the Government of the Federation of Brazil regarding the Exemption of Visas for both ordinary passports and for diplomatic and service passports. There is the MoU on Technical Cooperation between the governments of the Republic of Indonesia and the Republic of Brazil. Minister Retno Marsudi also affirmed that the signing of the three documents is expected to have no barriers to communicate with each other among the public, officials, and others. The intensification of the process can occur further. By mentioning the Visa Exemption for holders of ordinary Passports, Indonesian citizens will get visa-free facility to Brazil for 30 days. The facility is expected to encourage people-to-people and business-to-business contacts to enhance cooperation in various fields, especially economy and trade. Brazil is Indonesia's largest trading partner in South America. The total trade between Indonesia and Brazil in 2017 amounted to $3.18 million dollars. The visit of Brazilian tourists to Indonesia was also the largest in South America, reaching 28,359 in 2017.

Indonesia hoped that Indonesia-China's commitment will strengthen. China is expected to increase imports of Indonesian products. This was conveyed by President Joko Widodo to the media after receiving the visit of Prime Minister of the People's Republic of China Li Keqiang at the Presidential Palace of Bogor on Monday (7/5). The imports are mainly palm oil and tropical fruits. President Joko Widodo said that Prime Minister Li Keqiang has undertaken the increasing form of Indonesian trade with an additional minimum of 500,000 tonnes of crude palm oil to China. President Joko Widodo appreciated the visit of Prime Minister Li to Indonesia. It was Prime Minister Li’s first visit after being officially inaugurated in May 2018. For Indonesia, China is a strategic partner especially in the field of economy, trade and investment. The arrival of Prime Minister Li to Indonesia is also an important step in strengthening the relations between the two countries that must be mutually beneficial. According to President Joko Widodo, China with 1.37 billion population, is a huge market for Indonesian products. During the meeting, President Joko Widodo and PM Li Keqiang also discussed the improvement of mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries. The President asserted that as two major countries, the partnership of Indonesia and PRC should be able to provide benefits for peace, stability, and for the welfare of the world based on international law and norms. Meanwhile, in the event of Indonesia-China Business Summit 2018 in Jakarta on Monday (7/5) Indonesian Vice President Jusuf kalla asked the government and Chinese buisinessmen prioritizing Indonesian domestic workers in every investment conducted in Indonesia. This will add value to the industry, maintain environmental stability, and improve the quality of industrial products. Chinese Ambassador to Indonesia Xiao Qian earlier saidthat the visit of Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang indicated how important Indonesia is in the eyes of China. Xiao also explained that the relationship between Chinese and Indonesian society was established since 2,000 years ago and Indonesia is one of China's main diplomatic partners.

The Ministry of Trade held an export-import training for Afghan businessmen in Kabul, Afghanistan. The "Training on Export-Import Procedure" takes place from May 7 to 9 2018. The Ministry of Trade hoped that the training will contribute to improve trade relations and trade balance of Indonesia-Afghanistan in the future. Indonesian Export and Export Training Center, Directorate General of National Export Development of the Ministry of Trade held the training as a capacity building program, in synergy with the Indonesian Embassy in Kabul.The training encourages Afghan businessmen to hold cooperation with Indonesian businessmen. The training materials focused on improving Indonesia-Afghanistan trade balance through export and import activities. In addition, the training also provides knowledge about international trade to entrepreneurs. It was said by the Director General of National Export Development, Arlinda, on separate occasions in Jakarta on Monday (7/5).The import-export training in Afghanistan is a follow-up visit by President Joko Widodo to Afghanistan last January to boost economic and trade cooperation between the two countries. The training is also a form of support of the Indonesian President in an effort to bring peace to the people of Afghanistan. About 30 participants follow the training. The participants consist of Afghan businessmen who want to implement import-export activities with Indonesia, and officials of Afghan government agencies. The export-import training is also one of Indonesia's ways to increase export to non-traditional export destination countries. Indonesia's export value to Afghanistan in 2017 was recorded at 20.2 million US dollars. While the value of Indonesian imports from Afghanistan in 2017 was recorded at 29 thousand US dollars. Arlinda moreover said, Indonesian entrepreneurs have a great opportunity to increase exports to Afghanistan, so as to encourage greater economic growth. It can be seen from hundreds of Afghan buyers who visited the Trade Expo Indonesia in 2017. The Afghan buyer's visit resulted trade transactions amounting to 64 thousand US dollars. The main interesting products including household appliances, wood products, herbal products, paper and paper products. The speakers in the export-import training came from practitioners in the fields of export and import. The materials including introduction of Indonesian and Afghan potential products, an overview of export-import activities, export-import procedures and documents, export-import payment systems, transport procedures and handling of export-import cargoes, international trade provisions, calculations and export pricing, filling export documents, as well as success stories of exporters.

Indonesia is entering the political years: 2018 Regional Head Election -Pilkada and 2019 Presidential Election. Vice Chairman of the People's Consultative Assembly -MPR, Hidayat Nur Wahid in the socialization of Four Pillars of the MPR in Jakarta on Saturday (28/4) reminded that both political years will be full of very strict contestation and competition. He perceived that the democratic activities would be colored with various phenomena both positive and negative aspects.

As quoted from mpr.go.id, Hidayat Nur Wahid also reminded all  Indonesian people to remain passionately and actively participate in the political years. He also asked them to be binding with the Four Pillars of the MPR, namely Pancasila, the 1945 Constitution, the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia -NKRI, and Bhinneka Tunggal Ika or Unity in Diversity.

Hidayat further remarked that the implementation of the Regional Head Election, Legislative Elections and Presidential Election is the implementation of Pancasila and the 1945 Constitution in a bid to safeguard the Unitary States of Republic of Indonesia and to deeply understand the diversity of Indonesia. He warned not to make the political years as moment of mutual slander, spreading hatred and hoax news, spreading hostilities or conflict.

Hidayat Nur Wahid also asserted that the people of Indonesia should be grateful that Pancasila formulated by the founders of the nation has been able to become glue and unite the Indonesian nation whose diversity is very high.

Meanwhile, the Secretary General of MPR, Ma'ruf Cahyono in Jakarta (03/5) as quoted by mpr.go.id said that the MPR will continue to socialize the values of Indonesian nationality. Because the challenges ahead will be tighter. To face these challenges, according to Ma'ruf, the Indonesian nation should have two capitals, namely the ideological resilience and strong competitiveness.

President Joko Widodo took the initiative to inflame the spirit of Asian Games VXIII 2018 by wearing an Asian Games themed jacket while receiving a visit of representatives of the Organization of Intra Senior High School students with achievements at Bogor Palace, West Java, on Thursday (4/5) ). At the back of the jacket there is an illustration of some sports that will be contested. Above the illustration, it is read 'Asian Games' in big white letters. There is an ornament with Asian Games XVIII logo covering the front part of the jacket. At the right arm of the jacket, it is read 'Indonesia'. Jokowi explained that he was wearing the jacket to promote the 2018 Asian Games. The President, accompanied by Minister of State Secretary Pratikno and Education Minister Muhadjir Effendi, said, this is a joint obligation to promote the Asian Games, so that all the people should have a sense of belonging towards this great event. The jacket worn by Jokowi is designed by a local manufacturer of “Never too Lavish” brand. It also designed another Jokowi’s jacket worn when riding a motorcycle to Sukabumi, West Java, early last month. Jokowi invites the whole community to jointly promote the Asian Games. The head of state also appealed to the Minister of the Working Cabinet to follow in his footsteps to promote the Asian Games. On that occasion the President also gave quizzes to the student representatives with bike prizes. Meanwhile, Minister of Youth and Sports-Menpora Imam Nahrawi said, he was impressed to see the Asian Games Jacket worn by President Joko Widodo. Imam Nahrawi admitted that he first saw the jacket then and said it is an innovation of President Jokowi. The action needs to be followed by ministers to heads of regions to promote the Asian Games. The 2018 Asian Games will be held in Jakarta and Palembang from 18 August. Jokowi has requested in a limited cabinet meeting at the Presidential Palace Jakarta that the promotion of Asian Games is encouraged .

To increase national investment, President Joko Widodo asked all cabinet officials to expand the export market to non-traditional countries. The request was affirmed by President Joko Widodo in a limited meeting on the topic ‘Enhancing cooperation between Indonesia and South Pacific Region countries’ at the Presidential Office in Jakarta on Friday (4/5). President Joko Widodo wants Indonesia to strengthen its trade relations with countries in the South Pacific Ocean region. This is one of the efforts to open the export market of Indonesian products. He views that Indonesia is in a very strategic position. This should be able to be utilized to improve diplomatic and economic relations with other countries, especially those close to Indonesia. The President also reminded that Indonesia lies at a very strategic location between two continents and two oceans, Indian Ocean and Pacific Ocean. This condition should shape the direction of Indonesia's foreign policy and economy and be used for the national interest. Especially for countries in the Indian Ocean region, President Joko Widodo has formed a cooperation forum called ‘Indian Ocean Rim Association’ -IORA. But for the Pacific Ocean region, especially the South Pacific, there needs to be initiation to improve cooperation in the region. He is convinced that countries in the South Pacific region such as Nauru, Vanuatu, Fiji, Solomon Island, Samoa, and Tonga are open to cooperating with Indonesia in various fields, such as inter-community, culture, education of scholarship assistance, investment and trade. The leading products of Indonesian manufacturing industry which are ready to be offered include fishery products and services. Trade relations with Western Pacific countries could be the acceleration corridor of eastern Indonesia. The key is to strengthen connectivity, both cultural and economic connectivity. In addition, there must be smooth connectivity of Indonesia's transport system with countries in the South Pacific Region.

President Joko Widodo wants Muslim fashion to dominate the world market, remembering the current economic value reaches Rp54 trillion. When receiving 28 Muslim Fashion Community at the Presidential Palace in Bogor, West Java on  last Thursday (26/4), President Joko Widodo wants the sales value of Indonesian Muslim fashion to be increased, especially for overseas markets. President Joko Widodo also said that to make this come true, he has asked the related ministers to provide a forum in a bid to introduce Indonesian Muslim fashion in other countries. He also affirmed that there is  a great opportunity for Indonesian Moslem fashion to dominate the world market. Besides, Indonesia has the largest Muslim population in the world. But there must be good cooperation among designers, Moslem fashion entrepreneurs, and the government. President also remarked that to support the development of the Muslim fashion industry, the government plans to provide more funds for this industry. He hopes that in the near future, there will be talks between the government and Muslim fashion businesspeople in a bid to open the domestic market and export. The President believes cooperation between the government and Muslim fashion can encourage Muslims to enter the world market. Meanwhile, National Chairman of Indonesian Fashion Chamber (IFC), Ali Charisma, who is also a fashion designer, said that Indonesia has great potential to dominate the world’s Muslim fashion market. However, to encourage the expansion of Muslim clothing market markets abroad, the government also needs to provide better-quality raw materials. After meeting President Joko Widodo at the Presidential Palace in Bogor, West Java on last Thursday (26/4), Ali Charisma also remarked that what is needed is the adjustment of Indonesian products to the world’s standards, including the stylishness. He perceived that the export of Indonesian Muslim fashion products will adapt to the stylishness of local communities and the season in every country. The expansion of Indonesian Muslim fashion market share is also inseparable from government support. Secretary General of the National Craft Council, Euis Saedah also expressed the same statement. He said that the growth of Muslim fashion in Indonesia increases every year. He also explained that the average growth of the fashion industry reaches more than 10 percent per year. One indicator is the growing number of Muslim fashion industry players who market their products through various exhibitions.

Handicraft products of Indonesian people successfully performed at the international exhibition of Salone del Mobile Milano 2018 in Italy. Director General of Small and Medium Industry Gati Wibawaningsih said in Jakarta on Sunday (22/4) that the handicraft products are from Bali Creative Industry Center -BCIC, one of the innovation centers under the Directorate General of Small and Medium Industry, the Ministry of Industry. Since 2015, BCIC became a gathering place for entrepreneurs and creative incubators in the fields of fashion, craft, and animation. Gati Wibawaningsih explained, through BCIC, the Ministry focuses on encouraging the creation of new industry entrepreneurs and increase additional value of local products in order to compete in the global market. The programs are among others Design Lab, Creative Camp, Creative Business Incubator, Indonesian Fashion and Craft Award, training, and exhibition. The international design and furniture exhibition of Salone del Mobile Milano 2018 was held from April 17 to 22. There were 2,000 participants from various countries around the world presented contemporary products innovation that combined elements of design, technology, flexibility, and sustainability. In the exhibition, Indonesia has one pavilion called "IDentities", located at Hall 14 stand F30. The Indonesian pavilion performed the work of 27 Indonesian designers. Gati Wibawaningsih also said, that actually many Indonesian handicraft products are worthy to be displayed in the international design, because of high quality and high competitiveness. Two excellent products of Bali Creative Industry Center representing Indonesia, namely "Cengkeh" lamp products by Genie Anggita, inspired from the heyday of Indonesian spices in the International trade in the past. The products are produced in collaboration with the craftsmen at Sentra Tembaga Tumang, Boyolali, Central Java. Genie Anggita said her office was trying to introduce Indonesian wealth in their products, using local materials, such as rattan and bamboo, done by local craftsmen. She added that there are also introduced the values of culture, history, and Indonesian folklore through her handicraft products. The next product is Taratan, a rattan lamp designed by Ilhamia Nuantika in collaboration with rattan craftsmen from East Java. Taratan is inspired by the Madurese cultural philosophy and uses the character of rattan to play the light impression.
