Indonesian people in several countries celebrated Eid al-Fitr day by gathering at the Indonesian embassies. According to a statement of the Indonesian Embassy in Bucharest, Romania, on Saturday, June 16th the Indonesian people visited the embassy to celebrate and deepen friendship.

The embassy provided Indonesian culinary delicacies, such as rice dumplings, crackers, chili sambal, and braised chicken. Indonesian Ambassador to Romania M. Amhar Azeth welcomed Indonesian citizens and embassy staff, who attended the celebrations.

Meanwhile, Indonesians in New Delhi, India, also celebrated Eid al-Fitr at the Wisma Duta of the Indian Embassy. According to the Indonesian Embassy in New Delhi, Indonesian people from cities near New Delhi, including Aligarh, Gurgaon, Noida, and Lucknow, also attended the event. At least. The embassy also served specific cookies and pastries, such as pineapple pie, along with garlic crackers and roasted peanuts. Griffith University Rector Professor, Ian O'Connor, and Indonesian President's Special Envoy on Climate Change, Professor Rachmat Witoelar, recently launched a collaborative program on climate change at Griffith University, Brisbane, Australia. A statement from the Indonesian Consulate General in Sydney received by Antara News Agency on Saturday, June 16th mentioned that the launching ceremony was attended by the Consul General of RI in Sydney, Heru Subolo. This collaborative program has been developed by the Griffith Asia Institute under the leadership of Professor Caitlin Byrne as the director of the institute.

This three-year program includes four main activities, namely high-level dialogue; joint research; research support, mentoring, and capacity building; and student mobility. Prof. Byne remarked at the launch that the program is a reflection of Griffith University's commitment to establishing close relations with Indonesia through a strategic and mutually beneficial program, especially in the areas of sustainable development and climate change.

Meanwhile, Prof. Witoelar, in his keynote speech, expressed high appreciation to Griffith University, and underlined the importance of the collaborative program. He believes that this program will positively contribute to bilateral cooperation between Indonesia and Australia. Also, it will contribute to regional cooperation, in particular, to advance the United Nations sustainable development goals and implement the Paris Agreement on Climate Change," Witoelar revealed. Indonesia is cooperating with Eygiptian Red Crescent to distribute humanitarian aid to Gaza, the Palestine. This cooperation is to facilitate the process of channeling aid through the Rafah entrance in Sinai Province, Egypt, which is under the control of local authorities. Minister Counselor for Political Function of the Indonesian Embassy in Cairo, Sonny Sasongko, on Saturday, June 16th affirmed the Government of Indonesia always supports the Palestinian struggle for independence. One of the steps considered urgent is channeling of humanitarian aid amid volatile Palestinian situations in recent weeks. Sonny Sasongko said the Rafah border is the only access from Egypt to distribute aid to Gaza, and to cross the border required coordination with the local Government.

"Indonesia always supports the struggle for Palestinian independence. For that Indonesia also must strive to alleviate the burden suffered by most of the Palestinian people especially in the occupied areas like in Gaza. In this case the Indonesian government has assigned the Indonesian Embassy in Cairo to open access to Gaza through Sinai Province to distribute Humanitarian aid. Indonesia has met with several parties here including Egypt's Red Crescent.", Sonny explained.

According to Sonny Sasongko, the Egyptian Red Crescent welcomes the plan to distribute humanitarian aid from Indonesia. The Indonesian Embassy in Cairo is still waiting for further news from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and related parties for the timing of the shipment and the amount of aid to be channeled to Palestine. Rafah border crossing with the Gaza Strip has been almost completely closed since 2013.  The Rafah Door is usually opened briefly for access to aid and medical assistance in the Egyptian region or the farther region as it did during the last Ramadan. Israel controls six of the seven border gates in and out of the Gaza Strip. (Rian)

Indonesia welcomes the meeting between the US President, Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un in Singapore, on Tuesday (12/6). President Joko Widodo conveyed that Indonesia had hopes that the outcome of the meeting could contribute to the Korean Peninsula region, the ASEAN region, and to the world peace.

“I warmly welcome, Indonesia welcomes and supports the summit of the United States and North Korea in Singapore. We hope the outcome of this summit can contribute to peace, in the Korean Peninsula region, in our region, and to world peace. I think that’s the hope,” the President said in a press statement at the Bogor Presidential Palace on Tuesday (12/06/2018)

The US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un at a meeting on Tuesday signed an agreement document. The content of the document is, among other, President Trump committed to building a lasting and stable peace on the Korean Peninsula.
