PLN Gradually Recovers Electricity Supply (0)
State-owned electricity firm PT PLN has recovered electric power to Balaraja Extra High Voltage substation in Banten Province, and furthermore it will be channeled to Suralaya steam-fueled power plant (PLTU) to gradually recover its operation to reach its capacity of 2800 MW of electricity.
In addition, power supply from Gandul Extra High Voltage substations in Depok, West Java Province, will be channeled to Muara Karang gas and steam power plant (PLTGU) to supply electricity to the Indonesian capital city, Jakarta.
Acting President Director of PLN Sripeni Inten Cahyani said here on Sunday that the power supply to Jakarta was expected to recover within three hours.
"We apologize for the inconvenience today, and currently all efforts have been made to recover the Java-Bali power system, especially in the area of West Java, Banten, and Jakarta," Cahyani said.
The company has focused on power supply to PLTGU Muara Karang and PLTGU Priok to recover the system in the capital city.
Previously, PLN has recovered the operation of hydro-generated power plant (PLTA) Saguling and PLTA Cirata which are functioned as power stabilizer, and, at the same time, supply the electricity to PLTU Suralaya through Cibinong, Depok, Gandul, Lengkok, Balaraja and Suralaya extra high voltage substations.
PLTU Suralaya is expected to return to its normal operation within six hours to normalize power system in West Java and Banten.
Blackout that affected thousands of homes and public facilities in West Java, Jakarta, and Banten was caused by several troubles in the extra high voltage 500 kV transmission of Ungaran - Pemalang.
"PLN has taken its best efforts and will have evaluation to prevent recurrence of today's incident," Cahyani said.

Minister Plate urges older adults to get vaccinated

Minister of Communication and Informatics, Johnny G. Plate, has asked older adults to get vaccinated without delay considering that they face the highest risk of death due to COVID-19.
"Let's take and accompany our elderly parents or relatives to the nearest vaccination booth. For those who have motor limitations, help make it easier for them to visit the location. If there are other concerns, such as comorbidities, accompany them to the doctor for expert advice," the minister said in a statement released on Monday afternoon.
Plate asked all parties, including families, to ensure older adults get vaccinated.
"Ensure they immediately get the vaccination jab to reduce the risk of serious illness and death. We know that older adults have a high risk of mortality," he said.
In addition, he also asked regional governments to make a strategy to expedite vaccinations and overcome the obstacles that hinder them.
As of September 27, 2021, the number of older adults in Indonesia who have received the first vaccine dose has reached 6.25 million, or just 29 percent of the total target, he noted. Meanwhile, only 4.3 million older adults have received the second dose or 19.9 percent of the 21,553,118 targeted older adults nationwide, he added.
Aside from expediting vaccinations for older adults, Plate also asked all parties to cooperate to prevent a spike in COVID-19 cases in the country, even though the handling continues to improve.
He appealed to the public to adhere to the health protocols by remaining disciplined in wearing masks, avoiding crowds, washing hands, and getting vaccinated immediately.
As part of efforts to control the COVID-19 pandemic, the Indonesian government launched a nationwide vaccination program on January 13, 2021. Jakarta postpones classroom learning policy for 1,509 schools

The Jakarta Education Office postponed classroom learning for at least 1,509 schools for an entire week since Monday owing to a national computer-based assessment by the Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Ministry.
Head of the Public Relations Sub-Division of the Jakarta Education Office Taga Radja Gah stated that the delay was due to the assessment, scheduled from September 27 to September 30, 2021, so that the face-to-face learning was halted for all schools.
"The national computer-based assessment also brought student representatives to the school for assessment in the computer lab, so it was feared that there would be crowds at schools due to which the implementation of limited face-to-face learning was postponed until October 1, 2021," Gah stated in Jakarta on Monday.
Gah remarked that although the national computer-based assessment was conducted only for the high school level, the Education Office decided that the postponement policy would apply to kindergarten up to junior high schools as well.
"This is since despite the national computer-based assessment being for the high school level, the limited face-to-face learning policy covered early childhood education, elementary, junior high, high school, and vocational school. We are concerned that there will be crowding (that extends to the entire) school," he pointed out.
Meanwhile, Head of the Jakarta Education Office Nahdiana remarked that the limited face-to-face learning policy would not be implemented this Monday since some 899 additional schools that would apply the policy were still in the assessment stage.
Nahdiana remarked that the assessment aimed to review if the health protocols implemented in schools were appropriate to conduct limited face-to-face learning.
"Hence, now, we are preparing them, so that they are ready and considered qualified to open schools with limited face-to-face learning," Nahdiana noted.
Should the hundreds of schools clear the verification, then the limited face-to-face learning phase II will be scheduled from October 4, 2021.
"It will be opened on (October) 4 yes, if I am not mistaken," she noted.
On the other hand, in the event of a violation of health protocols in the verification process, the said school will be banned from conducting limited face-to-face learning.
The Jakarta provincial government increased the quota for limited face-to-face learning participants by 899 schools.
The decision was stipulated in the Head of the Jakarta Education Office Decree Number 984 of 2021 on the determination of educational units that conduct the second phase of limited face-to-face learning during the community activities restriction period.
Nahdiana noted in the letter that it applied to as many as 899 schools comprising 809 public schools at the kindergarten to high school and vocational school levels as well as 90 madrasas from the RA to MA levels.
These additional 899 schools increase the number of schools holding limited face-to-face learning with the hybrid method to 1,509 schools. Some 610 schools were allowed to operate.

Vaccination coverage makes Indonesia optimistic to overcome COVID-19

Spokesperson for the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment Jodi Mahardi said vaccination coverage in Indonesia lends optimism to Indonesians to overcome the COVID-19 phases.
"Indonesia is listed among the 10 countries with the most vaccination coverage in the world. In addition, the number of vaccinated people has exceeded the WHO target," Mahardi noted in a written statement received here Monday.
As of September 26, as many as 86,460,685 people had received the first dose of vaccine, while 48,526,648 had been administered the second dose of injection, and 905,366 people had received a vaccination booster.
Based on the percentage, recipients of the first dose of the vaccine had reached 40 percent of the targeted 208,265,720 people, while the WHO recommends at least 10 percent of the total population to be vaccinated as of September.
The increase in vaccination in Indonesia cannot be separated from the hard work of all parties including the central and local governments, Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI), National Police (Polri), State Intelligence Agency (BIN), community organizations, professional organizations, private sector, and state-owned enterprises (SOE).
Mahardi attributes the optimism to the smooth running of vaccinations alongside other efforts, such as the implementation of health protocols; increasing tracing, testing, and treatment (3T); as well as integrated isolation.
The number of daily positive cases of COVID-19 in Indonesia had continued to improve to 96.6 percent from its peak on July 15, 2021, whereas the number of active cases experienced a decline of 90.3 percent from its peak on July 25, 2021, Mahardi noted.
"In fact, the reproduction rate is less than one, and the positivity rate is below five percent. The government continues to strengthen the 3T and 3M and hold vaccinations as well as enforce the use of the PeduliLindungi application," he affirmed.
Mahardi later noted that the decline in the number of cases clearly had a positive impact. People are starting to reopen their businesses, so the economy can bounce back, Mahardi stated.
Economic recovery is apparent from the number of visits to shopping venues and the expenditure index that had continued to increase since August 2021, especially in Java and Bali.
President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) had earlier stated that Indonesia was continuing to move towards obtaining a COVID-19 vaccine. At the same time, vaccines were also being requested by several countries.
"We are quite successful in securing supply of the COVID-19 vaccine, which is being sought by almost 220 countries," President Jokowi remarked.

President has asked to open South Kalimantan's Sei Alalak bridge soon

President Joko Widodo has asked to immediately open the South Kalimantan’s Sei Alalak bridge that connects Banjarmasin City and Barito Kuala District heading to Central Kalimantan.
“It is right that the President has asked the Alalak bridge to be opened soon. We are currently coordinating with Public Works and Housing Ministry,” Head of the Presidential Secretariat Heru Budi Hartono noted in a press statement that ANTARA received here on Sunday.
The South Kalimantan residents had earlier appealed to the government to open the bridge to help solve congestion that has frequently occurred on the area connected by the bridge as the North ring road was badly damaged by flood.
Such protest has drawn the President’s attention. Knowing that the bridge plays an important role for the community, he then asked to open the bridge soon.
“The vehicle types allowed to pass the bridge are only two wheelers and passenger cars,” Hartono informed.
Meanwhile, Public Work and Public Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono expressed readiness to carry out the President’s directive.
“We have conducted the final check on the bridge condition and it is ready to be opened following the President’s directive,” he said in a statement of Presidential Secretary press bureau.
Hadimuljono added that the ministry will coordinate with the South Kalimantan regional administration and South Kalimantan Police.
“We will coordinate with the South Kalimantan Transportation Service and South Kalimantan Police pertaining to the restricted operational test as well as to monitor and secure (the area),” he said.
He appealed to the residents to obey the traffic rules as well as for the two wheelers and passenger cars not to park or stop on the bridge.
“We concerns on the new-constructed bridge where many people want to stop by to see it and take some photos. For our common interest, please be orderly and obey the traffic rules,” he highlighted.
He also urged the public to maintain the cleanliness and stay discipline around the bridge area.

Industry Ministry optimizes furniture machinery restructurization

The Industry Ministry would optimize machinery restructurization in small and medium-scale furniture industry to improve productivity as well as quality and expand its export market.
Export of furniture products has recorded a 30.8 percent increase during January to August 2021, compared to the export in the same period of 2020.
"This has shown that our furniture products can compete in global market. Moreover, our products are unique and innovative, thanks to various breakthroughs by industry operators in order to improve competitiveness," the ministry's acting Director General of Small and Medium Scale Industry Reni Yanita said in a statement here on Sunday.
Under the restructurization program, the ministry would provide discount price that could be reimbursed to SMEs bought machinery during a certain period.
The ministry would provide 25 percent discount for imported machine and 40 percent discount for locally-made machine.
"All SMEs could take part in this program, referring to the Industry Ministry Regulation. The program is expected to encourage the development of production technology," she said.
Indonesia's furniture export has recorded a positive growth amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Export in 2020 has increased by 12.2 percent to US$2.19 billion compared to export in the previous year.
Among the main destination countries for Indonesian furniture export are the United States, Japan, the Netherlands, Germany and the United Kingdom.
The ministry has also helped SMEs in the sector to hold partnership with large-scale industry as part of efforts to build supply chain ecosystem, hence it would improve efficiency in production process.
"To improve small-scale industry capability in fulfilling large-scale industry's specification, we have trained small industries to increase their products' quality," she said. (antaranews)

Indonesia vows to continue transformation toward circular economy

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto stressed the government's commitment to carrying out an economic transformation toward a circular economy.
"The concept is not only about waste management but is also about production process with reusable raw material. Hence, this will be a significant saving of natural resources," Hartarto said in a statement here on Sunday.
The circular economy is a model of production and consumption, which involves sharing, leasing, reusing, repairing, refurbishing, and recycling existing materials and products as long as possible.
This model will reduce consumption of primary natural resources and waste production.
Hartarto said the transformation toward circular economy is important for Indonesia, as it will bring positive impacts to environment as well as growth in many other sectors in future.
The circular economy, he elaborated, would increase Indonesia's Gross Economic Product (GDP) and, at the same time, create jobs for 4.4 million people.
The implementation of the concept of circular economy would also give contribution to the achievement of Indonesia's Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC).
"We are committed to reducing green house gas emission by 29 percent in 2030. With international cooperation, it can be increased to 41 percent," he said.
The low carbon development concept has been stipulated in the 2020-2024 medium-term national development planning and the road map of Indonesia's NDC achievement in 2030.
Five priority sectors, included in the two documents, comprise sustainable energy development, integrated waste management, green industry development, sustainable land restoration, as well as inventory and rehabilitation of coastal and sea ecosystem.
Regarding to the implementation of green industry, 895 companies have received the green industry awards during 2010 to 2019.
As many as 1,707 industries received blue and gold predicates in the Program for Rating Company Performance in Environmental Management (PROPER).
The minister admitted some challenges that might hinder the economic transformation, such as access to financial as well as technology to develop the green technology.

Indonesia to get US' additional COVID-19 vaccines via COVAX facility

The US government is committed to donating an additional 800 thousand doses of the COVID-19 vaccine to Indonesia through the global COVAX mechanism.
"There is a new commitment to add 800 thousand doses of vaccine through the COVAX facility that will arrive in Indonesia in the near future," Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi stated while delivering a virtual press statement regarding her activities in New York, Saturday.
The vaccine donation will result in the addition of 12,665,060 doses of vaccine that Indonesia had earlier received from the US.
US President Joe Biden had announced at the virtual COVID-19 Global Summit on September 22 that the US will donate an additional 500 million doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.
The donations will be sent to low- and middle-income nations worldwide from January 2022.
The commitment brings the total number of vaccines donated by the US to over 1.1 billion doses.
The US has shipped free-of-charge 160 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine to 100 countries, with millions of doses being dispatched on a daily basis.
At nearly all bilateral meetings with Indonesian partners, Minister Marsudi has discussed about COVID-19 handling.
"I told them that the positivity rate in Indonesia is currently below two percent on average or below the WHO standard of five percent. Earlier, Indonesia's positivity rate had reached 31 percent," she remarked while referring to the World Health Organization.
In particular, Marsudi urged several countries that still included Indonesia on the COVID-19 red list to reconsider the status given.
"One example, France has removed Indonesia from the red list," she noted.
In addition, Indonesia expressed concern over the inequality, discrimination, and politicization of vaccines.
Indonesia agreed with its partners to narrow the vaccine gap and stop discrimination and politicization over vaccines.
During the last two days on Sept 23-24, Minister Marsudi held bilateral meetings with 18 partners, including the high commissioner of UNHCR, secretary general of the Arab League, CEO of the US-ASEAN Business Council, secretary general of the United Nations, prime minister of the Netherlands, president of Palau, the UK foreign minister, and the US special representative for Afghanistan.

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) will officially launch the opening ceremony of the PON XX National Games at the Lukas Enembe Stadium, Jayapura district on October 2, 2021, Minister of Youth and Sports Zainudin Amali has confirmed.
"The National Games committee has coordinated with the National Sports Committee of Indonesia (KONI), the Youth and Sports Ministry, and other relevant parties to ensure President Jokowi's attendance to officially open the PON Games," Amali said at a virtual press conference originating from Jakarta on Friday.
Strict health protocols would be implemented throughout the opening ceremony, particularly during the athletes' defile and athletes' oath, he added.
He said the athletes' defile would not be as lively as in the previous games due to physical distancing and COVID-19 prevention measures.
Regarding spectator attendance, the committee has set maximum attendance at the match venues at 25 percent of the total venue capacity, with the percentage including the athletes and other officials, the minister informed.
Only fully vaccinated spectators will be allowed to enter match venues, he confirmed.
"We have also conceived detailed health protocol arrangements specifically for popular sports such as football, volley, basketballs, and badminton that may attract wide public interest to attend the match. We will manage the public spectators so the maximum capacity would not be exceeded," Amali said.
In view of the public interest in the PON XX National Games, the committee earlier hoped to open match venues to public spectators, but the low vaccine coverage in the four Papuan host regions forced the committee to reconsider the plan and set restrictions on spectator attendance in place, he added.

"All parties should collaborate to offer a sense of assurance to the public that vaccination is safe and halal while also expediting vaccinations in all reachable areas to cover as many citizens as possible," Jokowi noted virtually during the National Movement for Vaccination on seven million residents of plantations and productive villages in 17 provinces, an event organized by the non-governmental organization Projo and the Indonesian Palm Oil Association (GAPKI), which was monitored from the GAPKI IPOA YouTube channel, here, Friday.
To this end, the president welcomed the good gesture of Projo and GAPKI to help the government in expediting vaccinations for Indonesian citizens.
According to Jokowi, it is crucial to support the plantation and agriculture sectors in handling COVID-19 since they are strategic sectors that are of key importance to the community. In addition, the growth of plantation and agricultural sectors is also positive amid the pandemic.

Ministry readies PON information centers for journalists

The Ministry of Communication and Informatics has readied telecommunication networks and information center facilities (media centers) for journalists covering the 20th National Sports Week (PON XX) in Papua.
"We have readied a media center in these three clusters to facilitate journalists to take photos and videos and for writing to cover the implementation of Papua PON XX," Minister of Communication and Informatics Johnny G. Plate remarked during his working visit to Jayapura, capital of Papua province, as cited from a press release, Thursday.
The media centers are spread across the three districts of Jayapura, Mimika, and Merauke, under the Directorate General for Public Information and Communication at the Ministry of Communication and Informatics.
Those facilities will support content production pertaining to implementation of the Papua PON in October. The Ministry of Communication and Informatics has readied 100 LAN network cables for those information centers.
Plate stated that the provision of media centers to support the Papua PON is part of the development of information and communication technology (ICT) infrastructure, which is one of his ministry's tasks in expediting digital transformation.
The development of ICT infrastructure in Papua and West Papua has been conducted on a massive scale. Hence, results of the development can be utilized to support the implementation of the XX 2021 PON, which is the nation's most prominent sports event.
"Specifically, construction of the last mile or Base Transceiver Stations (BTS) spread throughout Papua both in the marine and mountainous areas," the minister noted.
Through the Telecommunications and Information Accessibility Agency, the Ministry of Communication and Informatics has built as many as 213 4G BTS towers in Papua and 244 4G BTS towers in West Papua during the 2015-2020 period.
