PLN Gradually Recovers Electricity Supply (0)

State-owned electricity firm PT PLN has recovered electric power to Balaraja Extra High Voltage substation in Banten Province, and furthermore it will be channeled to Suralaya steam-fueled power plant (PLTU) to gradually recover its operation to reach its capacity of 2800 MW of electricity.

In addition, power supply from Gandul Extra High Voltage substations in Depok, West Java Province, will be channeled to Muara Karang gas and steam power plant (PLTGU) to supply electricity to the Indonesian capital city, Jakarta.

Acting President Director of PLN Sripeni Inten Cahyani said here on Sunday that the power supply to Jakarta was expected to recover within three hours.

"We apologize for the inconvenience today, and currently all efforts have been made to recover the Java-Bali power system, especially in the area of West Java, Banten, and Jakarta," Cahyani said.

The company has focused on power supply to PLTGU Muara Karang and PLTGU Priok to recover the system in the capital city.

Previously, PLN has recovered the operation of hydro-generated power plant (PLTA) Saguling and PLTA Cirata which are functioned as power stabilizer, and, at the same time, supply the electricity to PLTU Suralaya through Cibinong, Depok, Gandul, Lengkok, Balaraja and Suralaya extra high voltage substations.

PLTU Suralaya is expected to return to its normal operation within six hours to normalize power system in West Java and Banten.

Blackout that affected thousands of homes and public facilities in West Java, Jakarta, and Banten was caused by several troubles in the extra high voltage 500 kV transmission of Ungaran - Pemalang.

"PLN has taken its best efforts and will have evaluation to prevent recurrence of today's incident," Cahyani said.

Mar. 10 - Indonesian Ambassador to Turkey, Lalu Muhamad Iqbal, advocated digital economy as a solution to the global economic crisis at the Bosphorus Summit, which was held in Istanbul from March 8 to 9 this year.

Digital economy can serve as one of the solutions to the global economic downturn caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, he said in a written statement released on Tuesday.

"Digital economy can serve as a solution because it constitutes cross-border economy, without distance and sector constraints. If it develops within a good ecosystem, it can create a digital spillover to the non-digital economic sector," he observed.

Quoting Oxford Economic data, Iqbal said the global digital economy was valued at US$11 trillion (Rp158,640 trillion) in 2016 and its value is projected to more than double to US$23 trillion (Rp331,703 trillion) in 2025.

Indonesia's digital economy is projected to reach US$40 billion (Rp676,9 trillion) this year, he said.

Meanwhile, Turkey's digital economy is expected to touch US$15 billion this year and grow to US$30 billion in 2023, he noted.

"To that end, Indonesia and Turkey have recently started to push for digital economic cooperation," he said.

The Bosphorus Summit is a strategic forum for the Balkan region that is held every year in Istanbul, Turkey. The forum brings together CEOs, policymakers, politicians, academics, senior journalists, and social and non-governmental organization activists from Balkan countries.

The 11th Bosphorus Summit was the first international-scale forum to be held in Turkey since the COVID-19 pandemic broke out last year.

The Indonesian Embassy in Ankara served as a strategic partner in organizing the summit this year. (Antaranews)

Mar. 9 - Minister of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection, I Gusti Ayu Bintang Darmawati, has said cases of online violence against women have increased with the rise in use of information technology amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Cases of violence are increasingly having various modes, the risk of online violence against women is increasing along with the increasing use of information technology during the pandemic," Minister Bintang Darmawati said while opening a webinar entitled ‘Protect Women from Violence - Dare to Speak Up’ in Jakarta on Monday.

In addition, during 2020, the majority of cases of violence against women involved domestic violence, she informed.

"The majority of cases are in the domestic realm; deeper psychological pressures accompany survivors, especially those facing various restrictions to leave the house due to the pandemic," she said.

The Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection is continuing to fight for the principle of gender equality, she added.

However, currently, violence befalling women is still occurring at an alarming rate, she observed.

Therefore, the ministry is encouraging women and the surrounding community to have courage and report cases involving violence against them or other women.

Minister Bintang Darmawati also invited inter-ministries and agencies, local governments, and the business world to work together to handle cases of violence against women and children in Indonesia.

"Together we must protect them, make them empowered to speak up, and fight for themselves. Without this empowerment, women will continue to be trapped in a cycle of repeated violence even after receiving help. To achieve this, we must play our respective roles, (we) must join hands to build a system that is friendly to women,” she urged. (antaranews)

Mar. 9 - Indonesia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are committed to an economic transformation for the future, wherein knowledge, innovation, and technology will drive their economies, Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, said.

He made the remarks in the context of the Indonesia-Emirates Amazing Week 2021, which was held last week, in conjunction with the visit of the UAE Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, Suhail Al Mazroui, to Indonesia.

"Through the Indonesia-Emirates Amazing Week 2021, I increasingly feel the same spirit and vision that the two countries are preparing something big for the future of their future generations," the Indonesian minister said on his personal Instagram account (@luhut.pandjaitan) on Monday.

He said he remembered telling President Joko Widodo that the UAE should become a pilot model for Indonesia.

According to him, seeing the progress of the country, he also coveted the same thing for Indonesia.

“Therefore, I have also conveyed Indonesia's desire to move forward through the use of sustainable energy. With full confidence I said in front of all delegates that with all the mineral wealth we have, Indonesia is ready to enter the global supply chain for electric and environmentally friendly vehicles," Pandjaitan said.

He also thanked Minister Mazroui for the “meaningful gift” from Prince Mohammed bin Zayed al Nahyan in the form of the establishment of a mosque and Islamic Center.

The mosque, which will be a replica of the Sheikh Zayed Mosque in Abu Dhabi, will be built in Surakarta City.

"I convey that all the people of Indonesia and the UAE should be proud because they both have visionary and friendly leaders like President @jokowi and Prince Mohammed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan. I am sure that if there are many leaders like both, then the world will be a better place for everyone,” he stated.

Pandjaitan said the strong commitment brought by Indonesia and the UAE to transforming the economies of the two countries into economies based on knowledge, innovation, and technology would create a big leap for the world, especially amid the economic downturn caused by the current pandemic.

"I hope Minister Suhail's visit and the strong leadership of the two leaders of these friendly countries can bring great benefits to the welfare of the two countries,” he remarked. (antaranews)

Mar. 8 - Indonesia ranks second in the fastest vaccination in ASEAN.

Quoting Reuters, Sunday (7/3/2021), a vaccination race is inevitable because vaccination is the key to breaking the chain of the pandemic, which in turn will again accelerate the pace of the economy of each country.
There are at least five vaccines that are popularly used: Pfizer (the United States / US), Sinovac (China), AstraZeneca (Europe), Sputnik (Russia), Novavax (US), and Johnson & Johnson (US).

Apart from that, there is the Covax vaccine developed by the World Health Organization (WHO) to suppress the egocentrism effect of developed countries in fighting over vaccines. Most recently, Italy blocked the delivery of the AstraZeneca-Oxford vaccine to Australia.

The pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca requested permission to ship 250,000 doses of vaccines from its factory in Anagni, Italy. However, the Italian government refused the request.

In the midst of such competition, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) is optimistic that vaccination in Indonesia can be completed in 1 year. He ordered Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin to speed up the vaccination process.

"I have also ordered the vaccination process for approximately 181.5 million Indonesians to be completed before the end of 2021," he said some time ago in an official statement uploaded on the Youtube channel of the Presidential Secretariat.

Currently, Indonesia has received a supply of 11.7 million additional vaccines for the second phase of vaccination. According to the Ministry of Health, the government this year targets to secure 340.5 million doses of vaccine from five brands, namely Sinovac (125.5 million), AstraZeneca (59 million), Covax (54 million), Novavax (52 million), and Pfizer (50 million). million).

By the first quarter of 2022, it is expected that there will be an additional 86.3 million doses of vaccine from the five producers. Thus, during that period, it is expected that 426.8 million doses of vaccine will be collected to be given to 260 million Indonesians.

It is known that the Covid-19 vaccination using the Sinovac vaccine from China is carried out through two stages of injection. Recipients of the second injection, number is equivalent to 0.4 percent of the total population in Indonesia. Still very small.

In comparison, Singapore has currently injected phase two vaccines into its 215,000 citizens, or the equivalent of 3.7 percent of its population. This places the City State at the top of the country with the fastest vaccination rates in the Region.

However, Indonesia's vaccination performance deserves thumbs up because so far it has only lost compared to Singapore.

In fact, Indonesia is the country with the most populous population in Southeast Asia. According to the records of Our World in Data, Indonesia is better positioned than the five ASEAN member countries in terms of the number of injections per 100 population. (RRI)
